Your Impact As A Health and Benefits Financial Analyst

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides analytical and project support to more senior financial managers and/or consultants and providing frequent status updates while managing small projects or portions of large projects simultaneously

  • Participates in problem-solving and effective integration of solutions to problems

  • Primary focus is on middle market clients

  • Coordinates with medical reporting COE as needed

  • Analyze ad hoc data using advanced functions in Excel and effectively communicate findings with both internal client team and stakeholders at the client

  • Participates in client calls and meetings with more senior financial managers and/or consultants,

  • communicates financial methodology and results and begins to identify client needs

  • Develops basic technical and consultative skills/expertise

  • Analyzes and understands results of analysis

  • Applies basic level of financial judgement and learnings from one project to another

  • Demonstrates familiarity with all basic financial models and commonly used terms within the industry

  • Mentors entry level financial managers

  • Requires the ability to work independently with general instruction and the ability to prioritize and organize work

  • Begins to identify ways to improve efficiency while maintaining quality

  • Able to adapt broader policies & programs to meet the organizations business needs.

  • Possesses advanced analytical, technical and problem-solving skills and abilities

  • Builds productive working relationships with peers and higher level professionals internally and externally to exchange information and make recommendations.

  • Uses knowledge to provide consultative advice and recommendations within specific functional areas.

You Bring Knowledge and Expertise

Required Experience:

  • Two plus years of health and benefits underwriting or data analyst experience, preferably in a carrier or consulting environment.

  • Advanced level proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially MS Excel. Knowledge of MS Access, SQL a plus.

  • Strong project management experience

  • Self-starter who can work well in a fast-paced, team environment


  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant discipline or equivalent experience

The selected candidate will: * Serve as the Fiscal Agent for the OVPR. Oversee and monitor the operations of fiscal support activities for the OVPR and associated Centers and Institutes including monthly reconciliations. Provide training, interpret policy and advise staff, faculty and others to ensure compliance with university, state and federal policies and regulations. Serve as Chrome River Champion. * Develop the budget for the OVPR. Review, analyze and verify the budgets of the OVPR Centers and institutes and ensure budget compliance. Direct expense and revenue forecasting and control, cash management, accounts receivable and accounts payable. * Prepare quarterly F&A return and annual summary. Monitor F&A revenue and provide reporting to OVPR leadership. * Produce financial, budget and other special reports, proposals and analyses and for OVPR leadership, to include monthly financial statements, revenue projections, categorization of reserves, mid-year projections, funds distribution reports and adhoc reports as needed. * Review and approve requests for Banner Authorization, research index requests, research proposal authorization, cost share, ChromeRiver and Banner approval queues. * Represent the OVPR in committee meetings such as Board of Regents-Finance and Facilities, Collections, and Fiscal Agents – others as assigned. Promote existing and new programs and/or policies. The ideal candidate will have a strong customer service mindset, possess outstanding communication skills (both written and verbal), have strong organizational and prioritization skills and will work closely with other members of the team to professionally represent the OVPR to internal and external constituencies.
