About The Division:
The Division of Consumer Services is responsible for the licensing, examination and regulation of the business activities of consumer loan companies, mortgage brokers, escrow agents, escrow officers, check cashers, check sellers, payday lenders, and money service providers. The division reviews applications for financial service providers to determine if they are eligible to be licensed in Washington and then examines the books and records of these businesses to determine compliance with applicable state and federal laws.
About The Position:
Under the guidance of state and federal regulations, agency policies and procedures, state rules, and multiple Acts you will engage in all aspects of the complaint process, including triage of complaints; internet and other research; review and assessment of loan documents and information; preparation and drafting of enforcement letters, directives, subpoenas, and analysis; and conducting enforcement checks from the Licensing and Examinations Units.
You will also investigate less complex cases involving potential administrative, civil or criminal violations of the laws and regulations pertaining to financial institutions, developing all essential evidentiary facts through drafting and executing investigation plans, subpoenas, conducting interviews, and examining financial and legal records. You will manage multiple assignments and cases simultaneously, including file and evidence management, organization and making recommendations for resolutions and the course of action to be taken based upon facts and applicable law or regulation. You will use established standards to recommend and draft administrative orders, statement of charges, cease and desist orders, memoranda, and investigative reports involving legal and factual issues, based upon the results of department investigations or examinations and provide testimony, as necessary, in administrative hearings, working with the Attorney General's Office in the preparation and presentation of administrative cases for hearing.
As directed and assigned, you may perform legal research and review; assist in developing or amending laws or regulations; recommend and make interpretations; develop procedures; respond to legal inquiries; assist in review of sensitive or technical correspondence; and field questions from the general public and licensees.
Exceptional analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
Graduation from an accredited law school.
Active membership with the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) or awaiting bar exam results and or bar number.
Official Work Station:
Your official work station will be defined as the Tumwater Headquarters office.
Depending on qualifications, we will fill this vacancy at Financial Legal Examiner 1 thru Financial Legal Examiner 3 level with a 12 month in-training plan.

Some travel is required, but the majority of your time will be spent in the office.
