Financial Institutions Tax Manager

We are looking for a dynamic Manager to join our growing tax team in our Chicago Office. The Manager will be responsible for the following:

  • Review of financial institution, specialty finance, and other specialty lending related tax returns. (i.e. C Corporation, S Corporation, and Partnership type business entities)

  • Assisting with book accounting for income taxes & ASC 740 reviews with the audit team.

  • Managing and driving the success of multiple engagements.

  • Ability to manage within budgetary and time constraints while providing a high-level of client satisfaction.

  • Attracting, developing, and retaining top talent.

  • Keeping lines of communication open with staff and clients.

  • Anticipating and addressing client concerns and escalating problems as they arise.

  • Initiating "cross selling" business to other practices.

  • Promoting new ideas and business solutions that result in extended services to existing clients.

  • Keeping abreast of latest developments as they affect Tax related issues and the Firm's standards and policies.

  • Developing an understanding of client's business and becoming a "functional expert" in the area.


  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field

  • CPA certification.

  • 5-10 years experience working in a public accounting firm with current tax experience with at least 2-3 years of experience with corporate type clients and ASC 740 reviews

  • A proven record of building profitable, sustainable client relationships.

  • A proven record of simultaneously managing multiple projects and engagement teams for various clients.

  • Ability to travel on a limited basis.

  • MST preferred but not required

Works within limited authority on assignments of moderate technical complexity. Utilizes underwriting policies and guidelines rating manual rules and insurance laws and regulations. Essential Duties & Responsibilities * Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines * Reviews applications and financial requirements for risks requiring moderate technical underwriting skills. Determines acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards. * Recommends appropriate pricing and coverage modifications or enhancements for risks after complete analysis and consideration of applicant documentation business factors and competitive situations. * Prepares quotes and answers questions from agencies internal and external contacts and escalates issues as necessary. * Prepares written communication on adverse underwriting decisions rate appeals underwriting requirements status and declinations.
