Responsibilities

Kingwood Pines Hospital is a 116 bed facility located in the beautiful residential Kingwood community. We are located about 30 miles northeast of the Houston Medical Center. The hospital provides 24-hour emergency services. We serve children, adolescents, and adults for psychiatric and behavioral health. The hospital also has services in intensive outpatient and partial hospital program services.

Position Summary

The Financial Counselor will be responsible for consistently and accurately validating patient demographic information, verifying insurance and determining sources of funding, payment methods, collect co-pays/deductibles and resolving outstanding financial issues for patients prior to discharge.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provide information to patients on costs, payment methods and alternatives to payments, including charity care.

  • Compile financial disclosures and charity applications. This includes screening inpatients while they are in-house, with the goal of attaining eligibility determination prior to departure. Also follow up with patients post discharge to obtain any additional documentation and/or information.

  • Provide answers to reimbursement questions regarding health-plan eligibility, benefit issues and co-pay requirements.

  • Work with health insurance providers to determine coverage and benefit limits.

  • Calculates payment requirements and informs patients of acceptable payment arrangements on balance, both current and previous.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in hospital business office setting; or at least one year of experience in medical billing/collection field. Strong knowledge of payer guidelines and reimbursement policies. Must be highly proficient with Excel (Required)

  • Strong time management skills. Stellar Customer Service skills. Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Ability to organize, multi-task, and meet deadlines

  • CPR and HWC Crisis Intervention training must be completed prior to beginning work.
