Financial Counselor

  • Self Pay Summary of Position:#Responsible for making outgoing calls to individuals and collecting payment in full or arranging payment contracts.

    Initiating and following up on Financial Assistance Applications preparing FINNOT (Final Notice) for mailing.

    Taking incoming calls and responding to patient requests. Documenting all accounts whenever a communication occurs Primary Job Responsibilities:# Customer Service: Answers and responds to telephone inquiries by patients in a pleasant and professional manner.# Solves customer problems efficiently, escalating any concerns he or she cannot solve to the supervisor and/or appropriate individual.# First escalation point for calls from all PFSR.

    Accounts Receivable: Provides follow-up by telephone/written communication on all high balance self-pay (patient) accounts as applicable.

    Research and resolve all credit balances in accordance with PFS policy as assigned.# Make outgoing calls to arrange for collection of self-pay balances on accounts (using department collection guideline to show good faith effort on collections). Financial Assistance:

    Reviews the guidelines of the Financial Assistance Program with patients and assists in completing the application.# Ensures all necessary documentation is obtained prior to submitting application to Manager for approval.# Generates approval/denial letters, as well as a Financial Assistance insurance cards.# If approved, apply discount to open accounts (in accordance with the Financial Assistance Policy).# Keeps track of all patients who have applied for financial assistance, which is crucial for the Exhibit 50 report that has to be sent to the state each year.# Proactively reaches out to patients whose financial assistance is about to expire, and sends them a renewal letter and a new application. Payment Contracts: Arranges payment plans with customers follows up to insure compliance with the department guidelines.# This includes but is not limited to, combining account balances, setting up automatic payments, and sending letters to the patient regarding contract or past due balances.

Documentation:


Documents all conversations regarding accounts utilizing the Meditech system.# Updates all third party insurance information obtained within 24 hours Initiate Customer Communication forms when the patient has raised an issue that is outside the scope of the patient accounts dept. Verify Insurance information received using Passport or payer websites.# Maintains a call log of every patient they talk with.

Bad Debt:# Obtains necessary documentation to show that collections efforts were made prior to sending accounts to collections.# Works with collection agencies on requests necessary for law suits.# Updates all accounts when a bankruptcy is sent in.# Custodial/ALC Accounts:# Works collaboratively with Care Management and hospital lawyer to ensure that patients are notified of their out of pocket responsibility once their stay goes into non-covered days.# This can include serving the patient with an itemized bill and discussing the balance owed. Minimum Qualifications:#High School Grad or GED required.

At least 2 year collection experience and at least 6 months handling high volume phone calls is required.#Medical Office background preferred.


Salary Range:


$17.22 - $28.27 Pay Grade: 18 Compensation may vary based upon, but not limited to: overall experience and qualifications, shift, and location.
