The Financial Counselor is responsible for working with patients to establish financial arrangements for medical services and procedures. The individual must possess a complete understanding of the registration area for which they serve as well as a general understanding of the overall Patient Access operation. This individual will serve as a resource for patients for discussion regarding point of service payments and/or financial matters involving patient accounts. This individual will provide information regarding assistance programs available and assist in a basic screening process. Individual serves as direct support for day-to-day staff questions and issues in regards to point of service. This individual will assist in the daily pre-service functions of pre-registration of scheduled tests. This individual must possess strong communication skills and must demonstrate the ability to utilize skills to inspire teamwork, quality, accountability, and ownership among the team.
Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Preferred: One year of advanced education or special training
Required: Six months to one year related experience and/or training.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Able to work independently and collaboratively in teams.
Critical thinking skills required.
Proficient in using computers and computer systems including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Ability to multi-task and have attention to detail
Familiar with the insurance industry and collection process
Preferred: Certification in CHAA (Certified Healthcare Access Associate).
