Financial Controller Coeur Mexicana


This position is based in Chihuahua, Mexico.

The Financial Controller oversees the accounting and financial reporting functions of the mine site and ensures the integrity of financial data and financial reporting. This includes maintaining internal control and accounting policies, procedures and systems. The Financial Controller oversees the monthly financial close, consolidation process and reports, and the preparation of financial statements. The ideal candidate possesses strong progressive accounting experience, understanding of global accounting standards, budgeting and forecasting and seeks the challenge of working with a growing finance organization.

Responsible for the efficient coordination of the Finances and Administration Department, to achieve the effective flow compliance of the project and safety requisites, and to achieve the highest possible levels of productivity and economic efficiency.

To make sure all the activities are being made in accordance with the company policies and procedures, especially in culture, safety, and the environmental policies and all the agreement requisites of the project and legislative.


  • Plans, directs and is responsible for the financial reporting, accounting, data processing and management information systems.

  • Provides financial reporting and analysis and cost control services in accordance with company systems and procedures. Coordinates budget, forecasts and strategic plan preparation for all functional departments.

  • Administers corporate accounting policies and procedures to ensure financial and operating reports reflect the condition of the operation and provide accurate and reliable information to assess the operations performance.

  • Supervise the preparation of the periodic and annual financial statements and prepare all the financial information in time and the taxes accomplishing the statutory requisites that demand the SAT (Mexican Government's Secretary of Public Lending) and the compliance of all the requirements that demand the Corporate Group.

  • Ensures integrity of financial reports and general ledger to support decision making.

  • Ensures that accurate books and records are maintained for the mine site's transactions.

  • Prepare and evaluate the projects of the investment expenditure of capital and financial plans

  • Oversees and provides quality control over the preparation of period financial statements and internal reports for accuracy and comparability of information; ensures conformity with GAAP.

  • Ensures transactions are accurately and timely prepared and recorded in accordance with GAAP.

  • Communicates and collaborates with internal departments and subsidiaries on accounting matters.

  • Ensures complex transactions are researched and accounting treatment properly documented & supported.

  • Facilitates reviews with site management of various reports and timely accounting issues, policies and processes.

  • Oversees the accounting system from a site perspective; plans and implements changes to the system as required

  • Leads and participates in special projects as required.

  • Supports and provides resolution to all internal and external audit processes and resulting issues that might be identified

  • Recommends and assists in implementing process improvements to either the accounting processes or SOX and management controls


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance. CPA required; MBA or graduate school preferred.

  • Experience in public company finance/accounting, ideally within the mining sector.

  • Approximately 7-10 years of progressive experience with complex accounting, internal controls, financial systems, and processes.

  • A proven ability to build strong business relationships beyond the finance team.

  • Demonstrated understanding and acceptance for responsibility of confidentiality.

  • Knowledge of USGAAP, MEXGAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley rules, and US and international tax rules and demonstrated experience in research and interpret guidance.

  • Experience working in an Oracle environment preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills: Fluent Spanish and English

  • Travel to mine site on a regular basis required

Required Skills Job Specifications Minimum Education/Experience: Bachelor's Degree (Master's preferred) in Accounting. Minimum of 10 years experience combined with 5 to 7 years industry experience. CPA/Public Accounting preferred. Skills and Abilities: Extensive knowledge of accounting and finance practices along with job costing, budgeting, and strategic planning. Strong communication and organizational skills. Proficient with Microsoft Excel program. Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task.
