Freddie Mac's Finance division is currently seeking a Financial Controller Manager to be part of the Investments and Capital Markets CFO department. The Investments and Capital Markets CFO department is responsible for financial accounting and reporting, hedge accounting, portfolio risk and profitability analysis, pricing and valuation activities, and financial planning & analysis for Freddie Mac's Capital Markets segment. The candidate will be responsible for managing a team of analysts to record journal entries, prepare financial and tax results, and perform analytics.

Your work will fall into the following primary responsibilities:

  • Managing the preparation of monthly journal entries for PC Debt basis amortization, MRS basis amortization, and security impairments

  • Managing the preparation of tax accounting results for the mortgage security portfolio

  • Managing the quarterly preparation of 10-Q and 10-K financial statement results for relevant results

  • Improving analytics of GAAP accounting results

  • Support the I&CM CFO department in preparing forecasts and DFAST results for basis amortization

  • Managing updates and issues with the PC Debt accounting subledger system

  • Managing and developing project timelines, policies and procedures, controls and other ad hoc requests

  • Reviewing work prepared by staff

  • Developing staff

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in capital markets, financial services, and/or financial analysis

  • CPA

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related degree

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft PowerPoint and the aptitude to learn other software

  • Secondary mortgage markets experience

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Self-starter

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Strong problem-solving capabilities

In this role, the individual will perform close cycle execution and financial result analysis for various portfolios in I&CM (e.g. derivative, debt, mortgage and non-mortgage investment portfolios). The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a desire to understand accounting concepts and has a passion for learning about capital markets. The candidate will see first-hand various transactions executed by the I&CM trading desks and learn about their financial impacts. Your Work Falls into These Primary Categories: Accounting * Perform or review daily and monthly validations/reconciliations reconciling between the subledger to general ledger to source systems * Prepare or review journal entries * Prepare or review monthly and quarterly analyses for analytical reports * Prepare or review quarterly footnotes or disclosure schedules * Research and resolve data or other issues as they arise in daily or monthly tasks Audit * Support and coordinate with internal and external audit * Support SOX documentation requirements * Prepare ad-hoc requests when needed * Leverage financial industry experience to ensure that accounting complies with GAAP and Freddie Mac policy Project Management * Interact and communicate effectively with business and other upstream or downstream partners * Proactively seek opportunities for enhancements * Solve accounting or data issues with internal and external stakeholders (change management team, traders or valuation team etc.) in a transparent and timely manner * Solve complex business issues by putting pieces together and understanding how our systems work * Work with business partners to document and understand requirement needs and challenge the team to create inspiring solutions * Work with project teams and stakeholders to ensure that business requirement gaps or issues are resolved in a transparent and timely manner * Demonstrate ownership of problems, issues, or requests from start to finish.
