Position Summary:
Primary focus of role to is provide support to and collaborate with Client Consultants on department initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collecting data and preparing reports and information needed for underwriting team members to demonstrate financial status for identified clients.

  • Assisting in creation and peer review of reports generated for client presentation, and data entry and review of analyst work regarding monthly, quarterly, and annual financial monitoring reports tracking expenses by product lines- adapting to various carrier reporting websites.

  • Communicates with and distributes information with account management regarding processes and data needed in order to effectively analyze client financial status.

  • Assists in the preparation of presentations, campaigns, communication materials, newsletters, etc. to internal staff and clients / prospects regarding underwriting policies and scope of services.

  • Participates in and help schedule regular underwriting team meetings.

  • Performs standard tasks using established and routine methods, principles, concepts and procedures typically on assignments of low complexity.

  • Typically works under close supervision and guidance.

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications and Microsoft Office.

Desired:

  • Advanced Excel skills.

  • Math or Finance degree preferred.

Key Characteristics:

  • Detail oriented; strong analytical skills and good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Must be able to multi-task to meet deadlines with quality and accurate deliverables.

U.S. Eligibility Requirements:

The Risk Management and Underwriting Lead Analyst – Voluntary Benefits is responsible for new and inforce business underwriting for Group Accidental Injury (AI), Critical Illness (CI) and Hospital Care (HC) insurance products. New business underwriting for this position will focus on employer groups from 250 lives + supporting a variety of markets. New business underwriting will consist of performing strategic case specific risk assessments to develop appropriate premium rates for a given risk to support the market's growth and profitability goals. Candidates for this position will be required to quickly learn the voluntary manual rating models and related pricing tools; knowledge of pricing adjustments and available plan designs; and an ability to assess financial risk based on multiple information sources. The underwriter is responsible for account level rate development and conducting customer negotiations with other underwriting areas and Sales on their book of business. The underwriter will evaluate and analyze total case profitability and develop strategic recommendations related to market competition, product development, and market pricing decisions. This position will require assisting Sales partners with underwriting data and financial exhibits on customer presentations. Collaboration with product/pricing matrix partners is also required to provide input on market level products and pricing needs. Responsibilities: * Perform case-specific risk assessments and rate development for presale and inforce business * Develops strategic recommendations related to market competition, product development, and market pricing decisions. * Drive consultative engagement with Sales and Producers/Clients through presale and inforce case level strategies, market discussions, book of business reviews, consulting as a resource on underwriting guidelines and training opportunities. * Actively engage with other underwriting matrix partners in setting case level strategies (i.e. Medical, Dental, Accident, CGI etc.) * Actively collaborates with product/pricing matrix partners to provide input on market level product and pricing needs. * Conducts negotiations with other underwriting areas and Sales on assigned inforce book of business and new business opportunities * Independently hold calls with Sales, brokers, or clients. * Mentors new hires and/or underwriters in training Preferred Qualifications: * Requires Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. * Demonstrated success in risk assessment with strong analytical skills. * Demonstrated success in developing highly respected, value-add business relationships through partnership and expertise. * Demonstrated ability to conduct negotiations with internal and external business partners * A minimum of 3-4 years of Underwriting experience. Background in AI/CI/HC Underwriting is not required * Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, rapidly changing, team-based environment. * Ability to foster collaboration across a team with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
