The Department of Neurobiology & Biophysics has an outstanding opportunity for a Financial Analyst to join their team. POSITION PURPOSE The University of Washington School of Medicine (SoM) is nationally and internationally recognized for excellent programs in clinical care, teaching, and research activities.

The SoM has 32 academic departments with over 3,700 teaching and research faculty, 5,000 clinical faculty, 4,800 students and trainees, and 3,700 staff with annual UW based activity of over $2.2B. The Department of Neurobiology & Biophysics was created in 2024 with the consolidation of the Departments of Biological Structure and Physiology & Biophysics. We are united by our common curiosity about how organisms work and our drive to establish a quantitative and mechanistic understanding of molecular, cellular, and nervous system function.

Our research builds on our traditional strengths in the fields of neuroscience, physiology, and biophysics, and embraces new fields that reflect our diverse scientific pursuits. We will advance fundamental scientific and biomedical knowledge, train the next generation of scientists, and build a strong community invested in the success of every member of our department. The department is one of the largest biomedical research departments in the School of Medicine with 50 faculty members, 80 trainees, and 100 staff members.

The Department has an annual budget of approximately $32 million. We have an outstanding opportunity for a Financial Analyst. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Management (75%): The financial analyst is responsible for developing and managing the accurate and timely preparation of the Department’s financial reporting.

This involves gathering, analyzing, and reporting financial data and results where data often results from multiple sources, including Workday. Findings derived from this data will play a crucial role in executive-level decision making. Responsibilities include this position to:

Use UW administrative system tools including, for example, Workday, and the Enterprise Data Warehouse to extract and download system data for analysis. Translate department objectives into financial assumptions for short-term and/or long-term planning Create ad-hoc reports that help departments address their Workday financial questions and/or root-cause problem-solving. Manage department self-sustaining funds, state funds, program funds, endowment/gifts, discretionary, and Indirect Cost Recovery funds Assist in FY budget development via Adaptive module Collaborate with the School of Medicine regarding department commitments

Project Management (25%):The financial analyst is also responsible for developing compliance related to department finances. Responsibilities include this position to:

Ensure adherence to university, college, and federal policies and procedures for financial management and budget creation Work with a diverse group of individuals; placing a value on diversity, equity, and inclusiveness. Assist Director in the development of departmental policies and procedures to maintain and improve adherence to university, state, and federal rules and regulations. Engage with School of Medicine community on development of processes and procedures related to Workday reporting Act as subject matter expert for department financial management MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and at least 5 years of experience in full scope accounting, including use of data analysis tools.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Demonstrate ability to analyze, interpret and explain financial results, and to formulate and implement process improvements. Demonstrate collaborative, customer service attitude.

Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated experience in working on diverse groups and teams; respects, values, and contributes to UW Finance, Planning & Budget and UW’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel including the ability to design, build, document and maintain complex workbooks in a user-friendly, intuitive, and logical manner.
