The Topps Company is seeking a Financial Analyst to join its corporate headquarters finance team located in Manhattan. This high profile group directly supports the company's Executive Management team by leading the company's annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, management reporting, and strategic planning activities. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop your finance and analysis skills, while simultaneously expanding your breadth of industry experience given the company's ownership of global confectionery, sports & entertainment, and digital businesses.

Topps is a leading creator and marketer of sports and related cards, entertainment products, and distinctive confectionery. The Topps Company, Inc. was founded in 1938 as Topps Chewing Gum, and in its early years, produced a popular penny "Topps Gum" from a factory in Brooklyn, New York. After World War II, the company developed Bazooka Bubble Gum, and in 1950, added trading cards to its product line. Baseball cards appeared in 1951 and quickly became a vital part of pop culture, a tradition that continues to this day.

Topps' sports and entertainment business produces trading cards, sticker album collections, and collectible games related to iconic global brands such as Major League Baseball, National Football League, Star Wars, English Premiere League, Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League, and World Wrestling Entertainment,. The company has also expanded its portfolio of products to include digital trading cards that are sold via the Apple and Google app stores under the brand names BUNT, HUDDLE, and KICK. Topps' confectionery brands, which are marketed under its "Bazooka Candy Brands" division, include "Bazooka" bubble gum, "Ring Pop," "Push Pop," "Baby Bottle Pop," and "Juicy Drop Pop" confectionary items.

Topps was acquired in October 2007 by Madison Dearborn Partners, a private equity group, and Michael Eisner, former CEO of Disney.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the consolidated forecasting process and own portions of the financial forecast models, including P&L, cash flow, and supporting schedules/analyses. Ensure their quality, timeliness, and accuracy.

  • Reporting of actual vs. plan, prior year, and current forecast

  • Monthly expense reporting by division/department

  • Assisting with the preparation of Senior Management presentations/meetings (Monthly Business Reviews, Board of Directors meetings, forecast review meetings, etc.)

  • Performing monthly close and forecasts as well as tracking of various projects for all corporate overhead departments

  • Conducting and summarizing ad hoc analyses

  • Compiling data for royalty report submissions

  • Monitoring and reporting on accounts receivable

  • Building summary templates of financial performance

  • Supporting the creation of the annual and multi-year strategic plan.



  • 1-3 years of finance and/or accounting experience

  • Some experience in budgeting, forecasting, and planning

  • Hyperion application use

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Demonstrate the ability to see the "big picture" in complex situations by linking information or by considering an abstract or long-term perspective; critically evaluates problems, situations or processes into its component parts, understands the nature of those parts and their relationship to one another

  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills

  • Good accounting skills, knowledge of GAAP

  • A high energy level with an ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

  • Proven ability to multi-task, juggle multiple projects, and effectively determine priorities

  • Ability to anticipate analysis needs and use an investigative approach to work

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Strong computer skills strong Excel (vlookups, sumif and pivot tables), Word, and PowerPoint

  • Knowledge of Oracle EBS is a plus


  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BBA or equivalent) in Finance, Accounting, or related field

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Evaluates and analyzes a variety of financial results and indicators such as capital expenditures, depreciation, proposals, investment opportunities, rate of return, profit plans, operating records, financial statements, etc. Recommends actions that may be taken to improve financial results. Compiles budgetary and fiscal data received from assigned departments to prepare revenue balance statements and historical comparisons of departmental expenditures with requested appropriations. Analyzes records of present and past operations, trends and costs, estimated and realized revenues, administrative commitments, and obligations incurred to project future revenues and expenses. Assists in preparation of special studies, analyses, and recommendations in areas such as budgets, forecasts, financial plans, governmental requirements, statistical reports, and business forecasts. Retrieves and organizes data into required reporting formats to provide a basis for comparison and evaluation. Prepares reports analyzing specific aspects of department structures, functions and operational procedures and recommends ways to improve efficiency and/or effectiveness.
