The Financial Analyst III is responsible for supportingthe Retail Operations, Customer Care, Sales and new business commissionsamortization processes, which includes but is not limited to conducting monthlySOX audits, preparing month end accounting entries, preparing and reviewingmonthly amortization schedules and managing month end variance commissionexplanations. The Financial Analyst will have superior management ofpriorities, scope, timelines, and budgets. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years' experience in accounting. Ourclient is an energy company located in downtown Houston.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Retail Commissions AmortizationProcess

  • Conduct and audit the accuracy and completenessof commission calculations and/or submissions, in order to deliver on monthlySOX controls

  • Manage month end financial processes andfunctions for Retail commissions amortizations, which includes review ofaccruals, journal entries, payments and other recurring activities

  • Understand amortization schedules and forecastsfor Retail commissions

  • Report and decompose commission variancesbetween budget or forecast and actuals, as well as between actual monthly spendand calculated payment values

  • Maintain independent tracking of Retailcommissions expenses, in order to effectively report on commissions pre-amortization

  • Work directly with the business in order toensure timeliness and accuracy of deliverables is achieved and then to improveprocesses

  • Be an effective member of the team

  • Develop and maintain positive workingrelationships across the organization

  • Develop and maintain a culture of continuousimprovement within the team

Since Hurricane Harvey, HCDD is managing more than one billion dollars that are dedicated to helping low and moderate-income families recover. To achieve this vision, HCDD is seeking a Financial Analyst III to join its financial reporting team. In this position, you will manage the financial reports of one or more grants, including Federal, State and/or Local funding sources. Key Responsibilities * Responsible for timely grant and fund reporting requests such as Budget versus Actuals, Fund Balance, Appropriation Balances, track revenue, budgets, project spending, etc. * Prepare dashboards and presentations for monthly financial review meetings * Collect project forecast from other departments and maintain the forecasting model * Analyze budgets and expenditures in SAP to off premise systems such as IDIS, DRGR, etc. to identify red flags and propose corrective measures * Maintain federal reporting as prescribed by The Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act * Perform other duties as required Essential Attributes * Detail Oriented: Job requires a high level of organizational, time management and prioritizing skills, attention to detail and innovative problem solving * Motivated: Must be a self-starter who is well organized with strong analytical skills and work well in a team environment. * Computer literate: Must be able to create and generate reports in Excel and Word. SAP experience is a plus. This is a grant funded position subject to cancellation when funds are depleted and/or contract period ends. WORKING CONDITIONS There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than optimal temperature and air conditions. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a closely related field. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Four years of professional experience in finance, economics, budget analysis or a closely related area are required. A Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting or a closely related field may be substituted for two years of the above experience requirement. MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS None PREFERENCES * Strong SAP, Excel and Power BI experience * Effective oral and written communication skills Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
