Job Overview

General functions related to analysis, reporting and planning financial data; serving as liaison between Local and Global organization. Research and tracking accounting issues to ensure data consistency and perform deep analysis of revenues and expenses for proper accounting treatment and recording to financial statement.

Initiate and produce financial reports utilizing SAP-cbFC and Hyperion/Essbase.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and analyze data required to support actual and planned business segment performance.

  • Develop and maintain reporting tools to ensure that DDC operational units have appropriate information to support business decision.

  • Assist in preparations for senior management.

  • Assist in the development and analysis for financial forecasts, operations plan and annual performance tracking.

  • Monitor key business trends on an monthly and quarterly basis, including sales, revenues, material cost, variable and fixe costs; recommending improvement measures when necessary.

  • Manage multiple projects including ad hoc requests related to your area, process design and implementation and development of operations reporting metrics.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Accounting/Finance & Economics or related areas preferred with 1 year of related experience OR an Associate's degree with 2 years of related experience OR 6 years of related experience required

  • An attached resume is required

  • Proficiency with MS Office required

  • Excel programming skills preferred

  • Working experience with SAP, Hyperion/Essbase and/or other query tools preferred

The Financial Analyst II is an intermediate level financial analyst professional located with OCFO - Office of the Treasury. The Financial Analyst II conducts simple to semi-complex analyses and provides recommendations based on the results of the analysis conducted. The analyses may include general and routine financial and operational issues and problems. The services provided include, but are not limited to: examination and review of studies performed by lower level Financial Analysts. The Financial Analyst participates in preparing detailed reports to show sources of information and explain the basis for conclusions; making recommendations on the basis of the analysis and evaluation; creating and tracking budget to actual across multiple years; and execute with supervision or as a part of a team a month-end close process that includes variance analysis and forecasting. Examples of Duties The Financial Analyst II performs a full range of financial analysis functions including but not limited to: * As a part of a team or under supervision prepares strategic financial modeling, annual target setting, and annual business planning process for City Agencies; * Recommends, develops, implements, and monitors simple to semi-complex financial and operational policies, guidelines, processes, procedures, internal controls, and performance measures; * Assists higher level Financial Analysts with the development of multi-year operating and capital plans, reserve forecasts, and long range financial strategies; * Develops, implements, monitors, and ensures compliance of financial and operational performance measures based on guidance and instructions provided by the supervisor; * Evaluates monthly financial and operational performance against plan, prior year, and forecast; * Draws charts and graphs, using computer spreadsheets, to illustrate technical report; and * Compiles and analyzes accounting records and other data to determine the financial resources required to implement a program. Minimum Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with major course of work in accounting, business, public administration, or a closely related field. Such education must include at least twenty-four (24) semester (36 terms) credits of coursework in accounting, finance, or economics. Applicants with a master's degree, such as Master in Business Administration, Master in Finance, Masters in Economics, and other appropriate and related courses of study meet the minimum experience required for Financial Analyst II. Experience Two (2) years of professional experience providing a systematic review, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation of budgets, loans or other financial data is required. Financial Analyst II must demonstrate proficiency with integrated word processing and spreadsheet functions. License / Certificates Possession of a Certified Financial Planning and Analysis (CFPA) certificate sponsored by Association of Finance Professionals may be substituted for one year of Financial Analyst II experience. There may be a requirement for some positions to have or be working on achieving CFPA certification. Equivalency Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis. City Of Detroit Detroit MI
