Job TitleFinancial Analyst

Job Description

The Financial Analyst is responsible for financial analysis, budgets, budget-to-actuals, projected company revenues, sales reporting, developing all aspects of global pricing, other accounting and finance assignments.

Major Responsibilities, Activities and Task Statements:

Financial Analysis and Budgeting:

  • Maintain Revenue Backlog and Trending Analysis

  • Prepare or verify Total Contract Value documents for sales activity

  • Participate in preparation of annual financial planning and ongoing forecasts.

  • Review actual expenses versus prior year and budget and analyze monthly budget variances

  • Prepare pro forma financial and forecasts

Sales Support:

  • Calculate and Report the company Sales Booking amounts

  • Populate and maintain the company Backlog of Revenues Sold

  • Administer sales commission plans

  • Analyze impact of proposed compensation models

Procurement perform and/or oversee:

  • Maintain process for all significant global purchases with special emphasis on capital and Operations expenditures.

  • Oversee global purchasing processes and procedures, including competitive bidding on significant purchases.

  • Analyze global monthly expenditures, identify savings opportunities.

  • Negotiate vendor pricing per the company procurement policy

General

  • Provide Monthly Financial Reporting to management in the areas of sales, backlog and as other projects as assigned

  • Manage procurement process, including receipt of request from company managers, check for budget availability, route for proper approvals and maintain purchase order files.

  • Perform Accounting and Finance functions as assigned

Position Specifications

Required

  • A four year degree in finance, economics, accounting or a related field

  • Advance knowledge of Excel and spreadsheet applications

  • Financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting experience

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills

  • Self-starter/results oriented; proven ability to achieve results across the organization

  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements in a fast-paced environment

Preferred

  • Experience managing and integrating data from multiple systems including ERP, CRM, and proprietary solutions.

  • Experience in identifying and implementing database solutions for complex FP&A functions, such as backlog, budgeting and sales reporting

  • Experience in similar industry and professional corporate environment

  • Experience administering sales commission plans and recording sales

Position Overview Protective Insurance Company is seeking a full-time Financial Analyst to work in the Underwriting department. This position will be responsible for evaluating the financial stability of Company's insured and prospect accounts, oversee collateral administration and conduct regular competitor and industry research to help identify opportunities for growth. This individual will also be responsible for assisting the company in completing internal and external audits of various programs, products and underwriting files. Primary Duties * Review financial statements of prospect and insured accounts. Provide trend analysis and a rating on the strength of the financials. Communicate with the Underwriter regarding any concerns. * Identify specific areas of concern regarding financial strength and participate in discussions with prospects and insured motor carriers, as needed, to gain a better understanding of financial stability. * Routinely monitor industry publications and insured accounts' public documents for signs of financial stress or material changes, such as mergers and acquisitions. * Oversee timely collection of collateral required from accounts and take necessary action to ensure collateral is received, including following up with external agents. * Generate collateral statements, ensuring accuracy and timely distribution to the account/agent * Provide regular accounting of collateral, including management level reports on monthly collateral transactions and track progress on collecting outstanding collateral. * Routinely monitor ratings of financial institutions providing collateral and take corrective action when ratings falls below Company requirements. * Regularly audit collateral calculation and collection by underwriting department to ensure compliance with Company procedures and guidelines. * Conduct research and report on findings regarding industry, economy and competitors to help identify market size, opportunities for growth and business to target. * Assist management by providing financial evaluation of new programs and other business opportunities as they arise. * Assist in data recording, data analysis and preparation of management level reports. * Complete regular audits of Underwriting Files, Program Business, and other internal policies/procedures to make sure the company is meeting standards. * Other duties as assigned Skills/Requirements * Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting, required * 1-3 years of experience reviewing and evaluating financial statements, preferred * Prior experience with a property and casualty insurance company, preferred * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills * Detail oriented with effective time management skills * Strong written and verbal communication skills * Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Excel and Word * Proven ability to demonstrate sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential information Protective Insurance Corporation Indianapolis IN
