This position is responsible for functions that pertain to federal, state, and alternative loan programs. This position is also responsible for the following: interpreting and administering federal, state, and institutional aid rules, regulations, policies and procedures; participating in on-going study, training and professional development activities to stay abreast of changing federal and state regulations to ensure compliance; participating in the development of office policies and procedures and providing training and regulatory guidance for other staff members.

Essential Job Duties

  • Award, certify, and maintain all loans categories for all student types, including traditional, nontraditional, and graduate.

  • Process private alternative loans.

  • Reconcile loan accounts, both federal and private, monthly.

  • Oversee preparation for disbursement of loans and transmittals to student accounts.

  • Serve on Union's behalf as the School Certifying Official to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

  • Advise Veterans and dependents regarding Veterans education benefits available to them.

  • Coordinate aspects of VA benefit processing, including certification of all Veterans' courses enrolled, maintaining adds/drops using the VA online system, and completing/coordinating WEAMS and 85/15 reporting.

  • Reconcile the electronic VA payments with Union awards weekly.

  • Assist with the preparation of disbursement for financial aid types listed above.

  • Assist with procedures, including data entry, awarding, and financial reporting.

Other Job Duties

  • Counsel students and families and respond to faculty and staff requests as needed.

  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and three to five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A strong work ethic with excellent organization skills, a high degree of initiative, and the ability to work well independently and with a team is a must. Position requires a high level of accountability, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, while following directions, with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with a bachelor's degree in business or a related field, as well as prior financial aid experience using Ellucian's Colleague administrative system.
