Purdue University Fort Wayne invites applications for the Financial Aid Operations Director position for the Financial Aid Office. This position will:

  • Provide day-to-day oversight of the Financial Aid Office

  • Will work closely with the Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Success to ensure proper training of campus constituents, timely assessment and reporting, and leadership for the department

  • Effectively and efficiently manage departmental budget and allocate funds to enhance student success

  • Develop, coordinate and execute recurring assessments of departmental operations to ensure efficiency and accuracy of customer service

  • Provide oversight and direction to the Financial Aid Leadership Team

  • Effectively supervise Financial Aid Office Assistant Directors

  • Develop and assess professional development program for entry and mid-level Financial Aid staff members

  • Utilize departmental and institutional data, recommend student success improvement strategies to the AVC and implement accordingly

  • Remain current on and oversee execution of financial aid regulations and best practices

  • Provide oversight for federal, staff, system, and local compliance of all financial aid programs

  • Lead Financial Aid Leadership Team, SIS, Bursar, and other university officials to produce timely, accurate, and efficient state, federal, system, and university reports

  • Partner with systems team to serve as point person, planning contact, and decision-making for all Financial Aid and Student Information Systems and processes

  • Provide oversight for all campus-based aid programs and serve as institutional contact to establish, maintain, assess, and troubleshoot accordingly

  • Serve students via telephone, email, and walk-in, answering complex problems, serving as go-to decision-maker for all Financial Aid staff members, etc.

  • Develop and execute communication campaigns to prospective, incoming, and returning students as it relates to application for and understanding of financial aid packages

  • Serve as a member of the Enrollment Management Divisional Team and other duties as assigned

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Five years of progressive university financial aid experience

  • Financial Aid systems knowledge/experience

  • Financial Aid compliance experience

  • Supervisory experience

  • Understanding of and appreciation for diversity

  • Must have a valid driver's license and remain in compliance with the Purdue University Motor Vehicle Records Policy

Preferred:

  • Master's degree or master's degree in progress

  • Budget management experience

  • Banner experience/knowledge

This position will: * Assist students and parents in finding and implementing funding sources to finance the student's education * Communicate options and advise as to which options are most suitable for the student's circumstances and needs * Ensure regulatory compliance; interpret complex federal tax and financial aid requirements * Exercise professional judgment with respect to individual special circumstances and conditions * Maintain current student records by updating student data in the Purdue Fort Wayne computer student system; verify student information in IU and Purdue systems * Process in-person transcript requests, academic record changes, changes of major, drop/add transactions, registration requests, and student record changes * Provide information to callers and visitors * Provide student-focused advising in the financial aid areas of application, income and tax verification, aid program awarding, scholarships, student loans, eligibility requirements and program reconciliation * Review applicant files and perform needs analysis, utilizing a formula consistent with federal regulations to evaluate the level and type of financial aid programs that can be offered * Advise students and families in budgeting and debt management and the university billing and payment processes; focusing on ways to meet expenses associated with attending Purdue Fort Wayne * Respond to inquiries from students, university employees, and the public in person and by telephone * Review all registrations and drop/add cards for accuracy and completeness * Assist University staff with inquiries about Banner system procedures * Process administrative withdraw (AW) for non-payment of fees list from Bursar * Assist students with credit hour changes that affect their financial aid eligibility; adjust aid packages throughout the academic year as necessary * Review award packages for errors and inconsistencies * Assist in the development and review of aid processing procedures, awarding policies and other compliance related activities * Make occasional presentations to university or high school groups requiring occasional travel and evening and/or weekend hours * Complete additional tasks as assigned Required: * High school diploma/GED * Four years' experience in financial aid or academic record maintenance * Excellent word processing, spreadsheet and database skills * Must be detail oriented with effective organizational and verbal/written communication skills * Ability to provide excellent customer service Preferred: * Associate degree * Skills in Windows Explorer file management * Ability to speak Spanish Additional Information: * Review of applications will begin immediately.
