About this Position

A Financial Aid Officer (FAO) I performs a variety of clerical and administrative activities for a single function (such as Pre-Certification/Validation, Award & Package (including Non-Federal Resource (NFR) functions), Refunds, and Disbursements) to process federal, state and other types of financial aid for University of Phoenix students. Individuals deliver high quality customer service to University students in compliance with Department of Education (ED) Title IV regulations and University policies and procedures.

What You'll Do

1.Serve as a department resource to analyze, research, accurately calculate and timely process aid, including Title IV financial aid, state grants, Tribal funding, scholarships, and other types of financial aid as needed, for a single functional area (Pre-Certification, Award & Package, Disbursements, and Refunds), ensuring compliance with all applicable state and federal guidelines, as well as internal policies and procedures; ensure accuracy and timely processing of all work. Identify and resolve any issues that prohibit a student's funds from moving forward; collaborate with colleagues in other departments to make necessary corrections or take actions as necessary to complete the assigned process.

3.Collaborate with colleagues to research, identify and gather required information to resolve any issues within the assigned function and ensure accurate and timely processing of the student financial aid file; serve as a resource on matters related to the specific function and provide assistance to others in the department as needed.

4.Help provide adequate department coverage and maintenance of service levels for a specific function.

5.Be able to work the scheduled shift hours assigned; additionally, may be required to work hours, including potential weekend hours, in addition to scheduled shift hours, as business needs dictate.

6.Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One (1) year of experience working with a financial aid processing system

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Working knowledge of a portion of student financial aid processing, Title IV and state regulations, as well as knowledge of internal policies and procedures

  • General knowledge of the higher education industry

  • Previous customer service and/or processing center experience

  • Strong computer skills and an ability to learn proprietary software applications

  • Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively, and an ability to meet production and quality requirements

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to convey ideas and influence outcomes

  • Flexibility and adaptability to work with frequent changes to regulations, policies and procedures

Pay Range

The annual pay range for this position is $30,900 (minimum), $43,400 (midpoint), and $55,900 (maximum).*

The hourly pay rate range is $14.28 (minimum), $20.05 (midpoint), and $25.82 (maximum). The annualized amount, not including eligible overtime pay, is $30,900 (minimum), $43,400 (midpoint), and $55,900 (maximum).*

  • Typical hiring range is between the minimum and midpoint of the above pay range. Actual starting base pay may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, location and budget.
