AZRA is a specialty niche reinsurer, domiciled in California and licensed as an admitted insurer in 36 states (including District of Columbia), and is a qualified, accredited, or approved reinsurer in fifteen states. AZRA is a property casualty reinsurer which writes both prospective and legacy reinsurance. AZRA has specific expertise in run-off management of U.S. legacy insurance liabilities. It services Allianz Group affiliates and third parties including third party claims administration of asbestos, environmental, workers compensation, general liability, and construction defect liabilities.

AZRA has approximately 150 employees located nationwide with the majority working on a remote basis.

Under minimal direction, the Finance Specialist is responsible for carrying out tasks within a specific Finance functional area (e.g., accounting, reinsurance, planning or risk). The Finance Specialist is able to handle highly complex matters and provide support to other areas within the Company including Claims and Operations. Specific tasks can include preparing required financial reports, creating accounting journal entries and posting to ledger systems, bill and collect reinsurance recoverables or perform risk capital calculations. As top technical level, provide guidance and direction to experienced analysts.

What you do:

The job function varies by area within Finance, with this position located within the Accounting & Reporting Team, and can include the following:

Reporting & Analysis:

  • Prepare and post journal entries

  • Prepare financial data and enter into subledgers

  • Prepare general ledger reconciliations, accounting and financial reports for management, government and regulatory agencies.

  • Interpret accounting data, analyze reports and recommend appropriate actions to be taken.

  • Analyze and interpret new accounting principles as established by regulatory bodies (e.g., FASB, NAIC, AICPA, SEC and Allianz).

  • Support financial audits.

Transactions:

  • Complete accounting worksheets, journal entries, cash application, controls and reports in accordance with GAAP, Statutory and IFRS Accounting Procedures for the insurance industry.

  • Interpret reinsurance contracts and apply reinsurance terms.

  • Support analysis and booking related to commutations, novations and schemes.

Projects & Initiatives:

  • Drive process improvements within immediate team and Finance department.

  • Participate in company-wide projects and initiatives as needed.

  • May have lead responsibilities for special projects.

What you bring:

  • Reinsurance and/or Insurance background preferred

  • 6-7 years of accounting experience required

  • 5 + years of College level coursework in accounting or finance

  • General knowledge of IFRS and US Statutory accounting principles and reporting requirements.

  • Flexible and knowledgeable with tasks related to both Accounting & Reporting.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Knowledge of automated accounting systems (SAP Preferred).

  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial operating statements.

  • Ability to interpret management and statutory requirements to define specifications for reports.

  • Ability to evaluate, summarize and present results of analyses.

Base Salary Range $100,000 - $125,000

Actual base salary may vary based upon factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, internal equity of peers, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual incentive program.
