About Strategic CostManagement:

The Strategic CostManagement team holds responsibility for all elements surrounding costs,ranging from forecasts, continuous analytics, actual closing processes,reporting, O&R tracking, defining cost saving opportunities and enhancingcurrent processes through controlled steps, including automation and/oradvanced modelling skills.

Overall Purpose of role

Provide financial management support to the corporation throughcomprehensive financial and business analysis of the assigned business areas.The position is responsible for detailed financial, business, and strategicanalysis, data mining, and spreadsheet modelling in support of the department'sresponsibilities for budgeting, forecasting, reporting and analysis.Responsibilities will include significant support of the monthly accountingclose process as well as the development and analysis of both short andlong-term budget. The role will be also accountable for the successfulexecution of multiple initiatives focused on improving analytics and processefficiencies within the Strategic Cost Management area. This role will directlyinteract and partner with members of the Barclaycard US Executive Committee andmanagement teams to ensure financial resources and business decisions arefocused on maintaining a successful cost structure.


Ensure successful end to end financial analysis and reportingfor assigned divisions:

  • Lead cost related activities supporting the Accounting monthlyclose process, including results reporting and ensuring journal entries andaccruals are recorded accurately.

  • Provide accurate detailed and summary reporting as well asanalysis of cost business drivers, risks & opportunities, and trendsimpacting business areas

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain analytical tools and metrics toprovide accurate and timely financial cost results, key drivers, and trends.

  • Identify, scrutinize and present variances between actual resultsand forecast to senior management.

  • Develop all related financial short-term and long-term forecastsand plans.

  • Create and maintain financial models and reports, includingstaffing, production data, unit cost, operational metrics, etc.

Monitor and report cost reduction and business investmentresults:

  • Track potential and realized risks and opportunities againstperformance

  • Ensure strategic investments are aligned with business objectivesand financial results are measured through appropriate cost / benefit analysis.

  • Report performance against corporate wide cost reductionactivities (e.g. cost challenge)

Demonstrate stakeholder management and leadership:

  • Build and manage relationships with key stakeholders within BCUSand throughout the wider organization.

  • Establish relationships and demonstrate appropriate influence withsenior stakeholders to drive appropriate output.

This role will needto have exceptional skills in dealing with all levels within the organizationto drive results. This include teammembers (peers) to align on understanding drivers and analysis of costs to beable to create overall cost story to be able to clearly articulate all the waythrough team leadership, CFO and Barclays International (BI) Cost Managementteam.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5 years of related experience in financial/budget analysis


  • MBA degree or equivalent experience

  • Previous Credit Card Experience

  • Knowledge of systems like Essbase, Peoplesoft Knowledge, a plus

  • Must be able to analyse and summarize large amounts of data

  • Excellent analytical skills

  • Superb Excel and PowerPoint skills required

  • Strong attention to detail and excellent written and verbalcommunication skills

  • Experience working effectively in a fast paced and rapidly changedenvironment within a matrix organization

  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and develop strongrelationships

  • Should be highly motivated and team oriented
