Position Title: Finance and Business Affairs Manager

Department: 2050|Dean of Graduate School

Responsibilities:

The Graduate School is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Finance and Business Affairs Manager to support our financial operations and functions. Reporting directly to the Dean of the Graduate School, this role is integral to managing various operational, foundation, grant-funded, and research salary incentive program accounts, as well as graduate assistantship, fellowship, research/travel, and scholarship funding and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and oversee graduate student funding and assistantship/fellowship offers and appointments, ensuring compliance with internal and external policies.

  • Collaborate with graduate education leadership and other university partners on policy matters related to graduate student funding.

  • Participate in the preparation and compliance of budget requests, competitive grant proposals, scholarship development, and matching efforts.

  • Compile, analyze, and report on the financial performance of academic and non-academic units awarded Graduate School funds.

  • Provide guidance and recommendations to improve budget processes; monitor and report on individual departmental, college, and academic-support unit allocations.

  • Perform annual and semi-annual reviews of assistantship and fellowship encumbrances; analyze deficiencies and opportunities in funding programs and scholarships that support graduate students and graduate education.

  • Serve as the liaison to key university partners related to budgets and funding including, for example, graduate programs, Advancement, Comptroller, Foundation, Human Resources, Payroll, and Scholarships offices.

  • Respond to technical inquiries and information requests related to the financial operations, funding opportunities, and graduate assistantship/fellowship offers and appointment processes.

  • Serve as the front-line point of contact for budget- and funding-related inquiries, providing excellent customer service.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field required.

  • Proven experience in financial management, preferably within a higher education environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

Professional and Personal Attributes:

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with graduate students, faculty, and staff.

  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Innovative, flexible, adaptable mindset with the ability to develop solutions to meet the demands of a growing, dynamic, evolving graduate education community.

  • Passion for supporting students and faculty from diverse backgrounds and disciplines.

  • Commitment to enhancing graduate student success and supporting their academic and professional development.

  • The position requires exceptional attention to detail as well as fiscal and human acumen. Candidates must be committed to a student-centered, people-focused, mission-driven approach to the position.
