Position Title: Finance & Accounting General Assistant

Department:
Academic Affairs Other Units Shared Services Center (Office of the Provost)
The Academic Affairs Other Units Shared Services Center (AAOU SSC) within the Office of the Provost, provides transactional support to 18-AAOU departments, in the areas of Finance, Accounting, and Budgeting.
Responsibilities:
This is a part-time position working approximately 10-15 hours per week. Flexible Schedule Available.
In this position the ideal candidate will have professional experience with handling Finance and Accounting transactions (Journal Entries, Reconciliations, Accounts Payable, and Procurement) and is accustomed to working under pressure and meeting strict deadlines.
A Shared Services Center General Assistant (Finance & Accounting) uses a proactive and collaborative approach, technical expertise, available tools and technology to provide outstanding customer service, with an emphasis on timeliness and accuracy, to the various departments serviced by the Shared Services Center. Shared Services Centers are highly skilled service units organized to manage UMBC's payroll and financial transactions for Colleges and Divisions. Each Shared Services Center offers a core set of services including the transactional processing, reporting, and analysis for: Payroll and Hiring, Procurement, and Accounts Payable.
Based on the needs of the Shared Services Center, the position will support one or more of these functional areas.
Procurement:
Reconciles expenses for all relevant accounts for all funding sources, including identifying, researching, and correcting errors in a timely manner
Assists departments with procuring goods and services using the most appropriate procurement option
Generates requisitions at the request of departments while adhering to University and department policies
Works with vendors to resolve issues related to purchase orders or invoices
Responsible for ordering, adjustments, and returns of goods
Budgeting
Prepares and processes journal entries and budget amendments
Assist with the Reconciliation expenses for all relevant accounts for all funding sources, including identifying, researching, and correcting errors in a timely manner
Accounts Payable/Receivable:
Prepares and processes payables, journal entries, etc.
Assist with the Reconciliation expenses for all relevant accounts for all funding sources, including identifying, researching, and correcting errors in a timely manner
Processes billing of internal facilities to internal and external customers
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a High School Diploma/GED and previous experience in Accounting, Business and/or Finance.

Associate or Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business or related.

Three to five years of professional experience providing support in Accounting & Finance
Customer service experience of at least 3-5 years in a face-paced, high volume environment,
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word, and be familiar with Google Suite applications including, Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar and Mail.

Salary: $21 - 23 per hour
Hours: Status: Part Time
Hours/Shifts: Day shift (between the hours of 8:30am and 5pm). Flexible schedule available.

Additional Information: Initial contract will run through June 30th, 2024, and may be renewed in 6 or 12 month increments, depending on business need.
