  • The purpose of the fastening engineer is:

  • Lead global fastening tooling and standards to support future programs, campaign prevention, and reaction plans for Ford North America Final Assembly manufacturing facilities.

  • Lead program-specific fastening project and strategy during development phase of the program through sourcing and Purchase order issuance.

  • Execute overall fastening strategy, seeing it through to delivery -and- implementation

  • Define, maintain, and update fastening tooling standards

  • Assist in the development of and ensure full alignment on program costing

The Fastening Engineers are the leads on fastening tooling development and technologies, on a non-program specific basis. The Fastening Engineers are the leads for fastening strategy and tooling, beginning at or prior to the milestone through the issuance of necessary Purchase Orders to support the programs. The Fastening Engineers are the owners of fastening standards and procedures.

  • Investigate, develop, and vet new fastening technologies and vendors.

  • Work on Global Manufacturing Fastening Standards by Developing Procedures, Global Manufacturing Standards (GMR), Standard Cells, Gap Strategies with Product Development, Standard Costing for Future Model Programs, DC Tooling CAD Library in Teamcenter and Updates to GVOSS.

  • Work with Cross Functional Teams in PAC Papers and Stop Ships to further Improve our Manufacturing Standards and Reduce Warranty Costs.

  • Support the Development of New Fastening Technology into our North American Plants including Wireless Technology, Toolsnet 8 and Pulse Tool Technology.

  • Implement Torque strategies and Angle Monitoring Limits into our North American Plants by gathering information from Product Development but more importantly, gain alignment with Product Development and the Plant during Launch Phases.

  • Support the Implementation of Toolsnet 8 into our North American Plants to Support Angle Monitoring and Reducing FSAs.

  • Drive Cost Studies ensuring Plants have Residual Torque Equipment, Torque Test Benches, TISS, TPPS and Tool Tracker.

  • Lead the Development of Online and Offline Repair Strategies involving Wireless Tooling Reporting to the Quality Operating System.

  • Work with a Team of Launch Engineers in Implementing Handheld DC Tools into the Plants for Future Model Programs.

  • Support Upperbody and Underbody Tooling Team on Ford to Furnish Tooling Orders

  • Lead 3rd Party Quality Auditors in Performing Yearly Audits at North American Plants for adherence to TISS Reports, Torque Routes, Fastening Procedures, Preventive Maintenance Status in Tool Tracker, TCNs and Torque Related Alerts.

  • Support Plant and Ford of India Team in Performing Audits every 6 Months at each Plant for Fastener Releases, Process Sheets and Controller Programming Adherence

  • Investigate, develop, and vet new fastening technologies and vendors.
