Job description:
This position will provide financial management, oversight, analysis, and guidance to one or more departments in the ALRT Center. The ALRT Center supports Anesthesia, Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Radiology, and Radiation Oncology and is located on the East Bank of the Twin Cities Campus.. Job duties include: review and approval of expenses, managing payroll allocations, advising faculty and staff on policy and processes, creating reports, reconciling and forecasting financials, resolving discrepancies, analysis including identifying financial opportunities or areas of concern, presenting reports and analysis to stakeholders, and working with stakeholders to take advantage of opportunities or resolve issues. The position requires in-depth knowledge of accounting principles and the ability to interpret contracts and policies.
This position has the ability to work remote, hybrid, or fully in-person. No employee is considered 100% remote and this position may be required to attend in-person trainings, meetings, etc.
Responsibilities:
40% Financial Reporting and Analysis
Ensure proper accounting standards are met and in compliance with Department, University, and Sponsor policies and procedures for each funding source.
Establish budgets for grants and internal accounts
Ensure accurate and appropriate cost allocation of personnel expenditures through payroll reconciliation and auditing; identify and process corrections.
Complete timely and accurate account reconciliations, audits, forecasts, and analysis.
Identify potential issues or areas of opportunity, present to and advise stakeholders on options, and follow through completion.
Create ad-hoc reports and financial analysis
35% Accounting Support
Maintain integrity of accounting systems and the Chart of Accounts
Review and approve expense transactions to ensure compliance with the appropriate policies and procedures
Create billing requests, process journal entries, setup payroll allocations, and process adjustments
Setup, closeout, and oversight of accounts in assigned areas
Provide guidance on policies and procedures to department faculty, staff, and students
Participate and assist in process improvement initiatives
15% Certified Approver
Pass the Certified Approver exam at the University of Minnesota within a year
Review, approve, and audit transactions on grants and contracts as a Certified Approver
Interpret, understand, and provide oversight of grant and contract regulations
Provide expertise on requirements and applicable policies of funding, expenses, and other terms and conditions
Identify areas of concern and recommend solutions
Coordinate effort certification, review statements, work with appropriate parties to resolve issues, and approve effort
10% Other Duties as Assigned
Backup and assist in training other team members
Represent the Center, College, and University by serving on committees and workgroups
Special projects
Qualifications
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.
Required Qualifications
BA/BS degree in accounting, business, public administration, finance, economics or a related field with at least 4 years of experience OR an equivalent combination of related education and relevant experience totaling 8 years
Experience creating, maintaining, and analyzing financial reports using knowledge of accounting systems and concepts
Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects with fixed deadlines and ability to re-prioritize tasks as needed
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Strong organizational and customer service skills
Strong verbal and written communications skills
Proficiency/experience with Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, vlookup, etc.) and Word
Preferred Qualifications
Certified approver or equivalent experience working with grants.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders, and individuals
Strong technical, problem solving and process improvement skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex problems
Ability to organize and direct multiple projects and interrelated financial activities with major operational or funding impact
Ability to anticipate business needs of investigators and/or departments, develop options, analyze impacts, and make recommendations to faculty and unit leaders.
