Job Overview

Timely, effective repairs of machine components in the shop.


  • Maintain an annual repair efficiency of 85%

  • Maintain annual rework hours (as a percentage of hours billed) of less than 3%

  • Must be able to meet standard repair times as defined by Komatsu Equipment Company (KEC) job codes listed in PFW

  • Maintain all company balanced scorecard goals

  • Maintain a minimum average score of 4 - 6 on the Technical Section of the Technician Competency Matrix

  • Maintain a minimum average score of 4 - 6 on the Soft Skills Section of the Technician Competency Matrix

  • Attain a score of no lower than 7 on the Safety Section of the Technician Competency Matrix

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned jobs and task to meet flat rate times and re-do metric.

  • Work safely and follow all KEC/Customer safety policies and procedures.

  • Complete related paperwork and access databases require to complete job (work order, parts order, JSA, DBS, SIMS, SIS web, STW) accurately and timely.

  • Follow contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations.

  • Remove and install parts, disassemble and assemble components, and test and adjust assemblies with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to provide accurate quotes and pricing estimates to the customer.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems, give recommendations for repairs.

  • Test and verify correct operation of all repairs and adjustments.

  • Apply general failure analysis and procedures to determine proper diagnosis.


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

  • Associate Degree in Diesel Technology or equivalent preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Flexibility to work various schedules including shift work.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos

  • Ability to write simple correspondence

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situation to customers, clients and other employees

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percentages

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference and volume

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Additional Information

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Certified to operate a forklift and/or manlift.

  • May be required to complete a DOT physical.

  • Required to complete MSHA certification.

  • May be required to complete respirator certification.


Must have a basic set of mechanics tools that meet minimum requirements as defined on Komatsu Equipment Company technician tool list

Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and toxic or caustic chemicals.

  • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.

  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

We have an opening for an experienced Field Service Technician who will visit various job sites in the US and internationally performing Installation supervision, field service maintenance, training, and support duties. Essential Job Functions * Startup of equipment, mechanical and control system trouble shooting and training of plant personnel. * Conduct shop inspections, installation of structural steel components at job site, erection and start-up assistance. * Provide warranty repair and problem resolution. Minimum Qualifications * High School graduate, GED, or equivalent education. * Five (5) or more years of experience in a related field * Ability to travel approximately 80% of the time (90% being domestic, 10% being international), often on weekends and holidays. * 25 years of age minimum. * Prior completion and/or able to start Hepatitis A immunization series * Valid driver's license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record * Ability to resolve basic electric/motor/VFD trouble shooting * Steel fabrication, welding and inspection experience * Ability to read and understand engineering detail drawings * Excellent communication and customer service skills. * Excellent grammar, writing and proofreading skills. * Organizational and time management skills. Preferred Qualifications * Two or four year degree in a mechanical trade program, programming or electrical engineering * Experience with servicing of equipment similar in nature to WesTech equipment Physical Requirements * The knowledge and physical skill to use a wide variety of power tools used in metal fabrication (especially welding and cutting), hand-held tools, and diagnostic and measuring devices to inspect, build and repair equipment. * Some lifting may be involved, (50-70 lbs), specifically when in the warehouse area(s). * When at job sites will be required to inspect equipment. This may involve: Bending/stooping/walking on ladders, walkways, catwalks, (may involve heights). Exposure to elements; cold, heat, wet, and/or dark. May be in a safety harness. When in fabrication shop, may involve utilizing hands in and around mechanical parts. * Comply with all safety regulations. * May be required to be clean-shaven for proper respiratory equipment.
