Position Summary

The Field Technician II role is network field management focused and will apply broad knowledge and working experience with networking concepts in the operation, maintenance, and management of telecommunication networks as a member of an experienced multi-vendor multi-disciplinary team. The focus of this role is to gather, and analyze network information in order to install, repair, report, or upgrade new or existing network elements. The successful candidate will be expected to work in a variable work environment that interfaces with multiple inter- and intra-office personnel/departments This intermediate-advanced level technician works with members internal and external to Xcel Energy to support Network stability.

Essential Responsibilities

  • The Field Technician II works on the Network Communications Field Service team with the primary responsibility of Network Operations Management for Xcel Energy communications network. Has good working knowledge of LAN/WAN network field operations and will apply that knowledge to a complex multi-vendor enterprise environment to assist with the repair and management of medium to high priority events. Field Technician II will make use of test equipment, respond to direct calls from dispatch, and utilize a ticketing system to address and document issues within the scope of this position.

  • As a member of a multidisciplinary team, this technician role will assist with the changes or modifications to existing or planned systems. Will work with Technician I's, III's, and Management to continuously improve upon technical and process related policies and procedures while providing support and advisement to Field Technician I's & II's.Will be responsible for escalating any vendor or intra-departmental assigned tickets/incidents according to the standard SLA requirements.

  • Answer daily calls requesting support and triage incidents in accordance with established policies and procedures. Responsible for incident ownership through resolution. Able to work with multiple carrier and/or intra-department technicians for further troubleshooting/isolation of layer 1 3 issues. Must be able to follow escalation matrix and understand priority levels of various outage incidents.

  • Be responsible for maintaining Xcel Energy and OSHA requirements for jobsite safety and security. Providing service and customer support during field visits or dispatches.

Minimum Requirements

  • AS/AAS/BS in related degree field, related certification, or equivalent documented experience.

  • At least 4 years of field operations that includes experience with switching/routing, transport, and data using layer 1 - 3 equipment or software.

  • Proficient to intermediate-level experience and understanding of the following: OSI Model, Fiber solutions, Service delivery via DS0 up to OC192. Microwave transmission, Wireless networks, Direct-broadcast satellites, cable management; color coding, power and grounding requirements.

  • Demonstrate experience effectively managing network cut-overs and equipment replacement.

  • Experiences in the use of network test/monitoring tools i.e.; Fluke Networks, JDSU, T-Berd.

  • Must be willing to work diverse schedules, including an on-call rotation involving escalated scenarios.

  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License.

  • Potential travel throughout the region with overnight stays.

Job Description: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Perform all Survey Field Technician I functions: > Loading and unloading survey equipment and supplies each day > Helping to maintain survey equipment such as: GPS, Total Stations / Robotic Total Stations, levels, etc > Assist with daily vehicles maintenance, cleaning, and completing truck sheets > Recovering and establishing both project and site control point > Establishing site calibrations with the assistance of office staff and PLS support. > Maintaining clear field notes. Perform all Survey Field Technician II functions: > Must be proficient in the use of total stations, data collection devices, GPS equipment and digital/automatic levels > Must be familiar with Trimble and/or Leica Surveying Instrumentation > Must be positive and team oriented with the willingness and desire to work as part of a team > Must be self-motivated, strong initiative and desire to learn and advance in the survey profession > Perform basic calculations such as level note reductions, angle calculations coordinate calculations > Basic comprehension and interpretation of site, boundary, highway and utility plans, profile and cross-sections, horizontal and vertical curves and contours Qualifications: > High School Diploma/GED > Valid driver's license > 3-5 years of experience as a Survey Field Tech or Crew Chief preferred > Familiarity with CDOT point codes and field to finish methodology preferred. > Ability to use standard survey equipment in day to day activities related to survey work > Willing and able to travel 50% of the time > Willing and able to learn the basics of utility locating as time permits > Ability to perform physical movements and tractions, to include bending and squatting to commensurate with operating heavy tools and survey equipment to include digging with a shovel, cutting line and walking carrying survey equipment and supplies > Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours per day) over both smooth and uneven terrain > Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs > Outdoor work in all climates > Possible extensive travel by motor vehicle or airplane up to 2 weeks continuously and overtime as needed. * Please Note that selected candidates will be required to pass a drug, background and reference screening.
