SUMMARY

The Field Technician performs commercial and residential installations, completes repairs, terminates service, and relocates existing equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs the installation of customer service drops or outlets in a manner that is courteous, professional, and in accordance with Cable One policy and procedures, along with specification compliance in the National Electrical Code (NEC)-Article 820, and in the applicable sections of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).

  • Uses electronic test equipment and online diagnostic tools to troubleshoot customer service drops or outlets, diagnose and repair reception performance issues, and resolve all problems from the customer-owned equipment to the output of the first distribution amplifier.

  • Terminates cable, data and telephony services in a manner that is in compliance with Cable One policies and procedures.

  • Assures proper upstream and downstream signal levels at each termination on the customer's premises.

  • Relocates customer service drops or outlets in a manner that is in compliance with all Cable One policies and procedures.

  • Monitor and record incidences of system and drop leakage.

  • Performs after-hours network stand-by, troubleshooting and repair.

  • Operates and maintains vehicle, tools, test equipment and other company owned equipment in accordance with system guidelines and procedures.

  • Educates customers as to the proper operation of all services, equipment, and home terminal units (HTU's) and customer owned equipment.

  • Seeks the opportunity to initiate the sale of new cable services, or upgrades of existing services and additional outlets.

  • Collects payments and obtains appropriate customer acknowledgements in accordance with Cable One cash handling policies via electronic work order and routing system (WFM) and other methods as required.

  • Other duties and/or responsibilities not specifically set forth above may, however, be assigned as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Successful completion of the Field Technician training course at the Cable One Technical Training Center is required within 9 months of employment.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record.

  • Successful completion of the Field Technician training course at the Cable One Technical Training Center is required within 9 months of employment.

  • This position requires the ability to work a variable schedule.

  • This position will require occasional travel.

Essential Job Duties: * Maintain protection of the environment and the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the communities in which we operate and/or transport our products as our highest priority. * Conduct routine operating inspections of the unit, troubleshoot operational problems and respond to area emergencies or to changing operational situations. * Operate equipment in the field and monitor process operating conditions through the use of instrumentation to regulate temperatures, pressures, concentration and flow of chemicals through the process system for prescribed reaction with critical limits. All must be accomplished according to standard operating procedures and in support of the safe operation and environmental integrity of the plant. * Maintain log of readings, lab results, shift production requirements and equipment issues to record daily activity and provide for adequate shift relief. * Initiate work requests, perform minor maintenance within capabilities and prepare equipment for maintenance. * Prepare equipment for maintenance work such as locking out equipment, preparing permits and verifying equipment. * Make minor repairs to equipment and initiate maintenance action when needed utilizing the SAP work notification process. * Notify supervision, maintenance, engineering and other auxiliary personnel regarding equipment malfunctions and troubleshoot process issues as needed. * LI-JB1 * High School diploma or G.E.D. required. * Process Technology Degree OR minimum of 2 years relevant work experience (e.g. production, loading, or unit maintenance) in the military, chemical plant or manufacturing environment. * Proficiency in math, reading comprehension, and mechanical reasoning with strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills. * Ability to work a rotating shift; weekends; holidays; overtime; and respond to callouts. * Ability and willingness to serve as member of Emergency Response Team. * Ability to read, write and speak in English. * Proficient in Microsoft applications. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Must possess a valid driver's license. * Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team. * Physical requirements – Must be able to lift 40 lbs, climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.
