Field Tech I (Water) [1207/24/17]

JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the Public Works Field Tech I (Water) provides efficient and courteous customer service, turning water on and off for residents, assisting with the repair and maintainance of the water distribution system, and installing meters and other related equipment.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under supervision, repair water main breaks and leaks on any and all parts of the water distribution system, including leaking or broken curb stops, valves, fire hydrants, and city water mains.

• Check for leaks in response to citizen complaints or as directed by the Water Billing Office.

• Replaces faulty or stopped water meters and installs meters for new construction.

• Replaces broken or missing meter boxes and lids.

• Completes work orders issued by the Utility Billing Office including turn-off and turn-on of water service, new installs, replacing faulty meters, and transponders.

• Operates light vehicles, radio, and performs operator's maintenance on vehicle.

• Flushes fire hydrants when required.

• Performs other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Ability to communicate in English, clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

High school education or equivalent. Must have a valid Class "B" Texas Driver's license, Class "D" Water Distribution License, or obtain required license within one (1) year of employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Lifting loads up to 50 lbs. (measuring up to 36"); carrying up to 50 lbs. (up to 15 feet); pushing/pulling 20 lbs.; gripping/rotating hand tools; stair/step climbing (accessing truck); bending; squatting; kneeling; walking; sitting; standing; near/far vision; accessing sewer structures (manholes, trenches, pipes, etc.); working in outside temperatures including excess heat, cold, and precipitation.

Pre-employment screening includes but is not limited to Drug Screen, Physical Examination, Credit Check, Motor Vehicle Review and applicable Background Checks.
