Perspecta has an immediate need for a Field Services Tech Lead in Washington, District of Columbia.

Under general direction, this position applies specialized knowledge in a single discipline such as assembly/integration, cross-discipline functions, data engineering, industry expertise, knowledge engineering or legacy evolution. Applies specialization to conceptualize, design, construct, test implement portions of business and technical information technology solutions through application of appropriate software development life cycle methodology. Interacts with the customer to gain an understanding of the business environment, technical context and organizational strategic direction. Defines scope, plans and deliverables for assigned projects. Collects, identifies, defines and organizes detailed user and information technology requirements. Coordinates and collaborates with others in analyzing collected requirements to ensure plans and identified solutions meet customer needs and expectations. Confirms and prioritizes project plans and deliverables with the customer. Participates in business and technical information technology solution implementations, upgrades, enhancement and conversions. Understands and uses appropriate tools to analyze, identify and resolve business and or technical problems. Applies metrics to monitor performance and measure key project criteria. Prepares system documentation. Establishes and maintains security, integrity and business continuity controls and documents. Participates in special studies. Stays current on emerging tools, techniques and technologies. Assists information engineers on application of specialized knowledge to coding, testing, implementation and documentation projects.

Incident Management:

  • Identify performance issues proactively.

  • Provides support for nonstandard or specialized systems including proactive and reactive troubleshooting. Works within strict time scales and elevates incidents within defined time windows.

Problem Management:

  • Uses proactive monitoring procedures/tools to identify problem prevention opportunities.

  • Apply technical knowledge to eliminate recurring incidents.

Change Management:

  • Configure system hardware, software and network components to meet established standards with assistance.

  • Perform installations, configurations including security and patch deployment.

Configuration Management:

  • Elevate discrepancies within Configuration Management Database (CMDB) to ensure customer system integrity.

Operations Maintenance:

  • Perform routine maintenance. May include performing tape/backup operations.


  • Understands the impact of operations delivery on the customer's business. Manage team's ability to meet target goals through coordination of continuous service improvement initiatives.

Project Management:

  • Contribute to project management initiatives.

Escalation Management:

  • Provide subject matter expertise. Manage escalations off core business hours.

Customer Relationship:

  • Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by clarifying customer needs and ensuring that they are met.

  • Work effectively in a multicultural environment.

  • Participate in customer visits and service reviews.

  • Respond to service, product, technical, and customer-relations questions.


  • Lead a small team focusing on both cost and quality management.

Education and Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; may hold 2 year post-high school Degree (technical field); may hold Bachelor's degree.

  • May hold entry level or intermediate level certification(s) in field of work.

  • Typically, 6 years of working experience in related fields.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Able to demonstrate broad knowledge of corporate policies, products/service portfolio, markets and processes.

  • Thorough knowledge of administration or technical practices in relevant areas, plus application of basic theory.

  • Able to apply advanced knowledge to assist in the operation of several aspects of a technology area/customer group.

  • Ability to resolve or assist in the resolution of complex customer problems.

  • Able to maximize systems availability in standardized customer environments.

  • Able to apply basic management skills in planning, problem solving, solution innovation, analysis.

  • Able to demonstrate good oral, written, and telephone communication skills.

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with customers, peers, and support partners.

  • Able to provide some proactive account understanding of the Customer's system environment and associated business needs.

  • Ability to work in a team environment, which may be local, global, virtual, or multifunctional.

  • Demonstrate good teamwork with peers.

  • Experience with Microsoft Windows OS, Active Directory, Service Manager, Remedy, Remote Desktop, and Hardware/Software troubleshooting.

  • SECRET clearance (SSBI preferred)

  • Must be a United States citizen

  • Basic network troubleshooting (TCP IP)

  • DoD 8570: A Certification on hand on first day. (Could accept Network , Security , or CISSP)

  • HPE Certified Professional Exam Servicing HPE Desktops, Workstations, and Notebooks.

  • Dell Online Service Department (DOSD cert)

  • NMCI experience or knowledge preferred

  • Excellent customer service / customer interaction skills

  • Exceptional communication and documentation skills for trouble-shooting and trouble ticket handling

  • Demonstrated aptitude and desire to excel as an IT professional/leader

Possesses excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Demonstrates strong electronic repair troubleshooting methodology and maintains at least an intermediate technical level of product knowledge. Ability to read and follow electrical/mechanical schematics to assist in isolating fault to root cause component/assembly. Cross trains on products serviced in the field, and displays intermediate proficiency in servicing the Trace, X-Ray, CT X-Ray and Cargo Inspection Systems product lines. Eagerness to work on special projects, some of high visibility, and/or in direct support of applicable project lead, as assigned. Looks for common-mode problem occurrences and seeks to resolve, both independently and with the aid of others. Has a working knowledge of business PC applications (MS Word, Excel & Power Point) and able to effectively use them to provide clear, concise information summaries as needed. Troubleshoots, services, installs (deploys) and repairs Trace, X-Ray, CT X-ray and Cargo Inspection equipment at customer sites. Maintains field service log and filing system to properly initiate, organize and maintain all field service and job files until work is completed. When not on travel or on an assigned shift, individual will provide assistance to the Technical Support staff. Demonstrates initiative and dedication through positive use of downtime and an overall willingness and eagerness to consistently exceed customer and company requirements. Conducts follow up calls with the customer to ensure satisfaction of work. Mentors lower level FSTs in order to improve their skill and knowledge of the equipment. Duties and Responsibilities * Responsible for meeting daily service repair needs and driving customer satisfaction * Foster positive customer relations and a high degree of customer satisfaction by communicating effectively with customers. * Installs, repairs and maintains equipment in the field; provides customer training as required. * Must be able to respond to emergency and non-scheduled calls for service within established response time goals. * Completes all scheduled maintenance within required deadlines.Documents all inspections, maintenance, repair work and submits paperwork in a timely basis * Order, install, and return parts and manages repair parts cycle time * Maintains an accurate inventory of parts and tools. * Maintains currency on all technical certifications. * Reviews all logs for open issues and prepares formal reports to customers as necessary. * Participates in Service Sales opportunities and assists with promoting and implementing revenue programs. * Looks to senior level FSTs for knowledge growth and support when needed. * Ensures that tools and test equipment are properly maintained and calibrated * Assesses product/equipment performance based on field support data; recommends modifications or improvements. * Seeks to provide technical support to customers and other service professionals as required. * May participate in site surveys, pilot program service activities, attend meetings, champion special projects and prepare exclusive reports. * Possesses a solid level of technical knowledge on the company's Trace and X-Ray technologies. * Maintains clear and concise business communication proficiency, both oral and written * Establishes and maintains a close relationship with senior level FST's and Product Managers in order to support the needs of the customer and remain aware of current technical trends. * Exercises every available measure to control and minimize costs while maximizing revenue * Must submit expenses, timecards and other administrative tasks within the specified timelines. * Travel, overtime and work hours other than Monday-Friday may be required. * Comply with and ensure department compliance with Company health, safety and environmental policies. * Comply with all applicable U.S. export control and security regulations. * Other duties as required. Required Skills and Experience Education/Training: Associate's Degree or Related Trade Certification (electrical, electronic, mechanical) or Military Training (electrical, mechanical, electronics). Equivalence achieved through comparative work and life experience is acceptable (>3 years work experience in a related electrical or mechanical field service role). Computer literacy; competency in use of all programs within MS Office Suite and aptitude for learning specialized software programs. Experience: Minimum of 5 years experience directly involved in troubleshooting and field repair of electrical and electronic systems and equipment. Knowledge/Skills: Individuals shall possess excellent communications skills and have a strong orientation for customer focus and teamwork. Must be responsive to all customer issues at all times. Must be willing & able to travel at short notice. Supervises: While supervision is not considered a primary responsibility of this position, there may be instances where supervision of others on a project basis may be required Background: This position requires Sensitive Security Information (SS) access and vetting via the TSA. Applicant must successfully pass a federal background investigation. Work Environment Details Work environment is typically considered to be off-site, wherever the customer of concern is located. Service will typically be rendered at airports, correctional facilities, courthouses, cruise ships or other locations as required.
