Company: Goforth Williamson

About Us

In February of 2004, two mechanical engineers teamed together to form Goforth Williamson, Inc. With over 30 years of rotating equipment experience between them, Travis and David focused on developing GWI into a customer-oriented service company. Since that time, GWI has grown to a company with over 50 full-time employees. The employees of GWI are specialists in their fields. They have a vast knowledge of pumping equipment and the applications they are used in. The employees have experience from Original Equipment Manufacturers, motor shops, contractors, machine shops and other rotating equipment repair facilities.

Summary

We are seeking to fill the role of Electrical & Controls Field Specialist. This position reports directly to the Controls Division Head. The controls division is relatively new at GWI, so this is an opportunity to become part of the foundation of a successful organization as it continues to expand. Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot general electrical control panel issues at pump stations.

  • Replacing starters, circuit breakers, and power wiring with larger equipment and conductors for upsizing pumps.

  • Upgrading direct-on-line starters to soft starts or variable frequency drives.

  • Programming/commissioning variable frequency drives and soft starts.

  • Program and troubleshoot our lines of pump station controllers and other controls equipment.

  • Test motors using meggers.

  • Troubleshoot pump issues including pump motor thermals tripping, seal-fail issues, bad motor windings or insulation, bad contactors, failed heaters in overloads, bad SCR's in soft starts, or faulted VFD's.

  • Submit field service reports with detailed notes and pictures from every job.

  • Meeting with customers to investigate equipment for quoting opportunities or to survey control panels to determine parts needed for upcoming jobs.

  • When necessary, speak on our lines of control products and our controls capabilities to customers.

  • Providing controls-related technical support or troubleshooting over the phone to customers, sales people, or other field service personnel.

  • This position requires overnight travel, about 10%.

  • This position requires weekend work when emergencies arise, about 10-15%.

Qualifications:

  • Although 2-3 years' working experience in electrical controls/automation is preferred, candidates with no experience who have the basic education/foundation and who possess the right attitude and exhibit the appropriate technical aptitude will be considered.

  • At least a 2-year degree in an electrical controls related curriculum. Appropriate working experience can be accepted in lieu of a degree.

  • A basic knowledge of electrical safety and safe practices when working around electricity and electrically energized equipment.

  • Ability to follow an electrical schematic.

  • This is a field service position, and as such, the majority of this work will be outside in the elements. Candidates must be able to work in the extreme heat, extreme cold, and rainy conditions when required. Appropriate equipment will be provided to help counter the elements when necessary.

  • The ability to lift things that are heavy and work on your feet.

  • Being a field service position, this role requires driving to job sites all over the state of Georgia. The successful candidate must be able to be trusted with a company vehicle, must have a good driving record, and must be able to drive long distances - sometimes in the early morning or late at night.
