Brief Summary of Position Purpose:

The Technical Application/Field Service Engineer at Cleaveland/Price plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient operation and performance of automation equipment and disconnect switches. This multifaceted position involves troubleshooting, repairing, and providing technical support for a range of electrical and mechanical Cleaveland/Price system products. Whether conducting on-site installations, delivering emergency technical assistance, or offering training sessions, the Technical Application/Field Service Engineer is committed to delivering exemplary service to both internal and external customers. With a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of electrical diagrams, this role involves evaluating product functionality, identifying areas for improvement, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement solutions. From providing technical sales support to conducting product testing and generating comprehensive reports, the Technical Application/Field Service Engineer contributes to the continued success and innovation of Cleaveland/Price's products and services.

Essential Functions:

  • Diagnose and resolve issues with automation equipment and disconnect switches to ensure uninterrupted operation and maximum efficiency.

  • Schedule and deliver timely emergency technical support and field service on an on-call basis, demonstrating a commitment to customer satisfaction and problem resolution.

  • Provide comprehensive installation support and training for automation equipment and disconnect switches, both onsite and in a classroom setting, to ensure proper setup and functionality.

  • Conduct thorough inspections, evaluations, and testing of electrical and mechanical Cleaveland/Price system products to assess operational status, functionality, and repair needs.

  • Offer expert technical sales support to internal and external customers for automation equipment and disconnect switches, utilizing various communication channels including email, telephone, Teams meetings, and in-person interactions.

  • Utilize technical expertise to troubleshoot and repair automation equipment at the board and software level, ensuring optimal performance and functionality.

  • Identify product failures and collaborate with other Cleaveland/Price departments to develop and implement effective product improvement solutions, contributing to continuous enhancement and innovation.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation, including RMA requests, quality feedback, field service trip reports, and expense reports, using tools such as SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in reading and understanding drawings and electrical diagrams to facilitate effective troubleshooting and repairs.

  • Occasional local travel within Southern California and customer support outside of the region may be required to fulfill job responsibilities.

Equipment and Tools

  • Basic hand-tolls including wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, etc.

  • Small power tools including drills, angle-grinders, saws, etc.

  • Measuring equipment including tape measure, calipers, etc.

  • Able to become certified to operate forklifts, manlifts, scissor lifts, etc.

  • Proficiency with all required PPE.

  • Slings, chains, and other lifting devices.

  • Basic electronics such as multimeter, crimping tools, etc.

  • Computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Word and Excel

Qualifications

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with customers and coworkers of all levels in a professional manner, both in-person and through various communication channels such as email, telephone, Teams meetings, etc.

  • Understanding of the electrical utility industry, including knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to automation equipment and disconnect switches.

  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in using mechanical and electronic test equipment for diagnosing and repairing electrical and mechanical CLEAVELAND/PRICE system products.

Credentials, certifications & Industry-Specific Experience

  • Associate in electrical, electronics or technical electrical field, plus 7 years' experience in troubleshooting and repair of electronic products and technical electrical systems.

  • Advance knowledge and proficiency of mechanical and electronic test equipment.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the electrical utility industry.

Physical Requirements

As a Technician at Cleaveland/Price SoCal, you'll need to be prepared for diverse work environments that may include exposure to heat, cold, fumes, noise, and uneven surfaces. Physical requirements vary from occasionally to frequently and constantly, depending on the task at hand. You'll regularly find yourself outdoors, with the duration varying from day to day. Constantly, you'll be standing, pushing/pulling, reaching/stretching, and using your hand/wrist and forearm. You'll occasionally lift loads of up to 50lbs, and frequently twist/bend. Climbing/balancing and driving will also be part of your duties. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory for safety. In the field, this includes EH safety-toed boots (6" minimum), safety glasses, fire-retardant/hi-visibility shirts and pants, fire-retardant gloves, and fire-retardant rain gear and winter gear. When not in the field, standard PPE such as steel-toed shoes and safety glasses are required, along with any job-specific or company-mandated gear like face masks or shields.
