Short Description

The purpose of the Field Service Mechanic A position is to utilize the mechanical expertise of the candidate to support the needs of the branch in a professional, safe and timely manner. An individual in this position will work to keep all equipment in peak running condition through an effective preventative maintenance program and a detailed repair schedule. This incumbent is a master technician and assumes a leadership role of product knowledge within the branch and acts as a professional representative of Herc Rentals at all times. He/she performs at a high standard of quality level within the branch. He/she has mastered the operating standards of the facility, the region and corporation.

Responsibilities

  • Follow a consistent and regular schedule to perform various types of maintenance on heavy equipment, construction equipment and various pieces of machinery at various job sites

  • Repair assorted heavy equipment as required to ensure proper operating condition at the job site

  • Disassembles engines and reassembles after a thorough examination

  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot fuel systems, electrical systems, hydraulic systems and propane systems

  • Conduct oil changes, lubrication of equipment, tire replacements, hose repairs, battery replacements and assorted services

  • Recondition and replace assorted parts of the heavy equipment

  • Must be able to operate and test equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, portable and stationary generators, hydraulics, pumps and assorted tools and equipment

  • Diagnoses problem areas for any significant wear or tear on the equipment

  • Maintain work area in a clean and organized manner

  • Produce timely and detailed service reports and repair logs

  • Follow all company's filed procedures and protocols

  • Build positive relationships with customers

  • Perform additional duties as assigned

The Technical Services Organization (TSO) is charged with program installation, maintenance and technical support. Senior field service technician (FST) is a part-time role (with working hours targeted at less than 1,000 total hours during a 12-month period), working out of your home office, to meet expanded equipment and service requirements both internally and externally. The work includes the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of chemical dispensing equipment, commercial dishwashers (warewash machines), and commercial laundry equipment, and troubleshooting chemical product interactions, all combined with a high level of customer interaction. Some on-call weekend and off-hours work is required on a rotational basis. The work must be done in a way that supports year-to-year volume and profit results, improve customer retention, and delivers superior customer service and team building results. The ideal candidate would have a background in electronics, plumbing, maintenance or mechanical systems. Commercial mechanical warewash equipment and chemical dispensing pumps expertise is a plus, as is proficiency and ability to read schematic drawings. Other desirable skills: excellent working knowledge of appropriate tools, data, implements and service needs; NRA ServSafe or NEHA CP-FS certification; understanding regulatory and plumbing requirements in the areas that affect our mechanical warewash program; proficient in laptop and tablet technology to include but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and mechanical warewash program controllers. Essential Job Function: * Work schedule may include: 12 hour shifts, 5 day work week, occasional weekends, and night shifts * Lift, lower and carry objects up to 50 lbs. * Push and pull objects up to 50 lbs. * Climb a vertical ladder, ability to go up and down * Climb up and down stairs * Stand, sit, and/or walk for long periods of time, twist, bend at the knees, stoop, kneel, squat, crawl, and reach for purposes of installing and maintaining equipment.
