Position Description

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for the following:

  • AN/WSC-9(V) NMT and/or Legacy and FOT AN/USC-38 EHF (all variants) and/or GBS and/or C-12509 TDMA TIP (all variants) and/or ATIP and/or AN/WSC-6(V) SHF Communication System (all variants); and all supporting patching, cryptographic, and baseband equipment.

  • Provide OJT instruction on SATCOM operations, maintenance, and repair.

  • Develop, plan, coordinate, and conduct SOVT. Report design, reliability, and maintenance problems to program management.

  • Support new system installations, integrations, and upgrades.

  • Install, troubleshoot, maintains and repair products/equipment.

  • Establish testing protocols and standards, providing training and guidance to engineers and technicians.

  • Test interoperability of systems, measures transmission/outputs, troubleshoots and resolves issues, and maintains detailed evaluation and repair reports.

  • Provide innovative solutions to complex functional problems that impact function's success.

  • Lead tasks, including planning, execution, staff oversight, and status reporting for significant initiatives.

  • Lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Qualifications

  • Active Secret clearance.
  • Ability to successfully pass a drug screening.
  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of experience OR High School Diploma and 9 years of experience in the field.

  • Effective interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.

  • 5 years of satellite communication (SATCOM) systems operations, maintenance, and repair in shipboard, submarine, and shore-based environments.

  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot and repair SATCOM systems as an individual and in team situations.

  • Ability to assess and respond to situations where standard procedures have failed in isolating or fixing problem equipment.

  • Ability to promptly respond to telephone and email requests for technical support.
  • Trade school or military training in industrial engineering, electronics technology, information systems, computer science or other related technical field (preferred).

  • 5 years Navy SATCOM troubleshooting and/or customer service experience providing technical support to engineers in areas of research, design, development, testing, or manufacturing process improvement (preferred).

  • Ability to travel as necessary.

Click OR Copy and Paste this link for a sneak peek into what it's like working for Scripps Engineering & Technology: https://scripps-1.wistia.com/medias/clpccp5hfo Key Activities * Responsible for preventative maintenance and emergency repairs of video, audio and radio frequency (RF) systems, including satellite and microwave equipment. * Drive, set up and operation of a Satellite IP truck. * Maintain logs and records as required by law. * Maintain logs and reports as per FCC Rules and Regulations. * Install and maintain video, audio, RF and computer equipment. These systems include digital transmitter system, microwave systems and of all broadcast equipment including, but are not limited to studio camera and switching systems, video monitors and technical measurement devices, video file servers and automation systems, electronic graphic systems. * Maintain and operate all studio electronic equipment. * Install new equipment. * Maintain and repair news bureau equipment, ENG equipment, IP truck, satellite dishes and related equipment. * Assist in the design of any improvements to our operation. Skills Education & Experience/Certifications. * Must have 5 years of broadcast TV maintenance preferred. * Extensive knowledge of computer networking and broadcast automation systems. * 3-5 years of studio and transmitter maintenance experience preferred. * Must have a valid Driver's License. Skills & Abilities * Must be able to use a variety of equipment including but not limited to: Ross switchers, Logitek audio consoles, Panasonic cameras, Ross Inception, Ross Xpression, Final Cut editing systems, Harris automation, and Nexio video servers. RF and transmitter experience a plus. CAD experience a plus. * Must be a senior technician or paraprofessional highly experienced with a similar level of responsibility. * Ability to resolve complex problems not covered by existing procedures or practices independently. * Must have knowledge of FCC rules. The use of test equipment and soldering skills required. * Ability to guide and coach colleagues. * Ability to effectively communicate with departmental and station personnel as required. * Ability to work independently under a timeline to achieve departmental and station goals. * Must be able to comprehend schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals. * Ability to prioritize. * Must be able to work with microwaves, transmitters, and satellites. * Ability to effectively work and communicate with others. Work Environment * Must be able to work a flexible schedule including able to work multiple days, holidays, evenings, weekends, and possible overtime hours as needed. Availability to travel over multiple days is essential. * Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds * Must be able to work in changing weather conditions.
