Bio-Rad is seeking a Field Service Engineer who will perform repairs, upgrades, and preventive maintenance on our instruments for clinical diagnostics, life science, and biopharma customers based in Jacksonville, FL traveling 50 - 75%.


  • Provide customer site service on all CDG/LSG products including emergency service.

  • Maximizes system uptime through proactive preventive maintenance.

  • Acts as customer advocate to ensure satisfaction and repeat business.

  • Maintains company assets including parts inventory and leased vehicle.

  • Administrative duties include service documentation consistent with FDA regulations.

  • Other duties include accurate expense reporting and timekeeping.

  • Must maintain learning plan in training database and regular product update training.

  • Travel is required.


  • Associates Degree in Electronics or related field equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years of transferable field service experience servicing electro-mechanical/electronic/optical/robotics equipment, in a biomedical engineering or a medical diagnostics instrumentation environment; or BA degree and 1 year of equivalent experience.

  • Strong electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to read, understand and successfully follow medium to highly complex work instructions.

  • Strong computer skills with fundamental knowledge of computer networking allowing interface with customer I.T. departments.

  • Good customer relation and communication skills, both written and oral.

Responsible for the operations and performance of the Field Service Technicians and Lead Technicians. </p> <p><strong>Primary Duties and Responsibilities:</strong></p> <p><strong><i>Manage Road Service Technicians</i></strong></p> <p>Direct and manage the Field Service Technicians. Train, motivate and counsel the Field Service Technicians. Train and oversee the technicians in proper safety practices in servicing customers’ equipment and operating a company vehicle. Track, manage and work with technicians on their performance. </p> <p><strong><i>Recruit, Develop and Evaluate Personnel</i></strong></p> <p>Participate in recruiting and interviewing new technicians. Make technician compensation recommendations to the Service Manager. Work with personnel department and Operations Manager or Service Manager on disciplinary actions and terminations. Perform employee performance evaluations.</p> <p><strong><i>Customer Retention and New Service Business</i></strong></p> <p>Maintain direct contact with current or prospective customers at end users locations. Provide customers with maintenance cost reports as needed. Handle customer and service complaints and issues. Maintain good customer relations. </p> <p><strong><i>Administrative Tasks</i></strong></p> <p>Prepare customer service repair quotes, presentations and reports. Coordinate and follow through on factory service requests, tests and field modifications. Work with accounts payable department on past due service accounts. Process proper paperwork in regards to workman’s Compensation injuries and service van accidents. Oversee the maintenance of the service vans, tools and equipment. Perform other duties as assigned.</p><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><p>This position requires a high school diploma along with prior company experience as a Field Service Technician. A valid drivers’ license is required as well as good communication, interpersonal, and good motivational skills. Technical and repair knowledge is necessary.
