Wagner Equipment Co., the Caterpillar dealer for Colorado, New Mexico and far west Texas, is seeking applications for a Field Service Journey Technician.

The Field Service Journey technician works with minimal direct supervision in diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing heavy equipment at the customer's site.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

Administrative:

  • Maintains truck and crane inspection logs on a daily basis

  • Completes CAT service reports daily that are legible, have proper grammar and sentence structure, and appropriate SIMS code

  • Transmits photos, timecards, service reports, and other information through e-mail

  • Maintains good customer records on jobs that have been assigned

  • Maintains credit card receipts for accounting purposes

Organizational:

  • Works with the Service Department, Product Support Representatives, and Sales Department to meet all of the customer's needs

Interpersonal:

  • Communicates with customers on the diagnosis and status of repairs, parts, and other concerns

  • Teaches and coaches other technicians in the field

Sales:

  • Promotes Wagner Equipment Co. to customers

Technical:

  • Accurately troubleshoots and repairs CAT equipment the first time

  • Reads, understands, and applies electrical and hydraulic schematics to repair work

  • Safely rigs or hooks components for lifting

  • Removes, repairs, and installs major components in varying configurations of equipment

  • Maintains tooling in good working order as per MSHA and OSHA regulations

  • Makes determinations in the field on warranty repair and guidelines, communicating decisions to customer and dispatcher

  • Maintains service vehicle in safe and good repair

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education Required: High School Diploma or GED and Relevant CAT accredited courses

Minimum Experience Required: Five + years' experience servicing heavy equipment

Administrative / Clerical Experience

  • Basic Level

Customer Service Experience

  • Intermediate Level

Sales Experience

  • Intermediate Level

Technical or Mechanical

  • Advanced

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations Required: DOT Health Card, Class D Driver's License and MSHA license

Highly skilled mechanic who safely performs diagnostic, maintenance and repair of heavy equipment such as, but not limited to: Haul Trucks, Water Trucks, Rubber Tire and Track Dozers, Front-end Loaders, and Motor Graders. * Perform the removal, repair and installation of transmissions, engines, breaks, differentials, pumps, motors, torque converters, final drives and other heavy equipment systems or components * Perform mechanical and lubrication preventive maintenance on machine systems such as: hydraulic, power train and engines * Prioritize and make decisions regarding equipment repair as needed * Responsible for maintaining work orders and performing work area inspections * Operate mobile equipment such as: overhead cranes, forklifts, and boom trucks * Perform welding such as: Carbon Arc, Plasma, MIG, TIG, and Stick * Perform as a Fill-in Supervisor as required * Train and mentor other employees * Perform other duties as required Minimum Qualifications * Two (2) years of experience in Heavy Equipment mechanical maintenance or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance * Ability to prioritize repairs and possess excellent decision making skills * Ability to troubleshoot machine systems * Ability to work and effectively communicate with others * Ability to read and use blueprints Qualifications Preferred * High School diploma or GED Criteria/Conditions * Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English * Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards * Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment * While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear, see and work in confined spaces * Occasionally may be asked required to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the workday * Will be required to work rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 operation * Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required * Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol-free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as allowed by applicable state laws Freeport-McMoRan has reviewed the jobs at its various office and operating sites and determined that many of these jobs require employees to perform essential job functions that pose a direct threat to the safety or health of the employees performing these tasks or others.
