Position: Field Service Chemist

Department: Commercial

Position Reports to: Market Segment Technical Manager

FLSA Status: Salary, Exempt

Location: Hybrid

Position Summary

To audit initial trials through commercial scale up customer facilities, to

troubleshoot rubber processing issues at customer facilities, to audit the production of sensitive compounds at HEXPOL facilities, to collaborate with customers to improve yield without sacrificing performance or quality.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Review trial QC data

  • Improve cycle times for commercialized compounds with no impact on quality.

  • Identify and monitor the processing of sensitive compounds.

  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with customers and vendors.

  • Coordinate common business goals and maximize customer satisfaction.

  • Work cooperatively with customers during trial production runs and actively perform problem-solving activities.

  • Initiate and implement evaluations and planning activities to achieve a proactive approach to continuous quality and productivity improvements.

  • Inspect processed material and packaging for correctness.

  • Review quality control laboratory test results and use the data to consult with technical teams to improve product performance.

  • Record customer process information and provide technical call reports for each customer visit

  • Work with Technical and Quality teams regarding correction/preventative measures to avoid non-conforming recurrences.

  • Work with the Technical department in the trial and commercialization process, as needed.

  • Travel to other HEXPOL locations or to customers to support trials and troubleshoot processing issues; travel requirements will be 40%.

  • Perform any other project/task as assigned by Management.

Education, Skills, and Experience Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Chemistry or Polymer Science, or related field is required. Experience may be considered in lieu of education.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry or Polymer Science, preferred.

  • Five (5) years of manufacturing experience, preferably in Polymer Science, preferred.

  • Five (5) years' experience in manufacturing environment specializing in rubber process: extrusion, molding, mixing, calendaring, preferred.

  • Proven understanding of polymer compounding/mixing technologies, chemistry, chemistry engineering and mechanical engineering.

  • Proficient written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Proficient computer/systems skills - MS Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Outlook).

  • Solid organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks, meet tight deadlines, and manage a broad range of responsibilities.

  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills with an emphasis on continuous improvement.

  • High degree of concentration with attention to detail, high energy, self-motivated and self-reliant.

  • Ability to coach and develop Associates.
