Job Description


Reporting directly to the Senior Manager Commercial Training for BD Diagnostic Systems.

The National Field Sales Trainer is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing a wide range of field sales training and development activities in support of the U.S. BD Diagnostics Organization.

This individual is responsible for:

  • Developing/ refining field based programs

  • Assessing sales and product skills and competencies

  • Assessing developmental needs of current sales representative

  • Providing training and development support to NON-ACUTE U.S. Field sales team

  • Coaching and directing the activities of newly hired sales specialists


  • Support National Sales Trainer during the orientation/training program for newly hired sales team members.

  • Implement Sales Associate Competency Model and other sales effectiveness programs for field-based associates.

  • Conduct assessments of skills, competencies, and needs of the new sales representative and provide feedback and coaching.

  • Communicate with front line management progress of new sales representative.

  • Partner with the marketing team to develop training and programs related to existing products and new product launches. Participate on Commercial Excellence planning teams and provide appropriate training and development guidance based on best practices.

  • Conduct assessments of skills, competencies, and needs of the existing sales team and design and implement programs for ongoing growth and development of sales associates.

  • Work with Sales Management to communication skill ability, progress and succ

  • Work cooperatively with the sales and marketing management teams to plan, organize, and execute regional and national sales initiatives.

  • Work cooperatively with the marketing department to meet short-term training needs associated with national trade shows and meetings and key conferences.

  • Domestic Travel up to 60 -70% of the time


  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from a four year college or university

  • Minimum of 3 years previous sales experience

  • Consistent demonstration of leading sales results

  • High level of competency in professional selling skills, account management and product knowledge

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences in a variety of formal and informal settings

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively facilitate and direct dialogue, discussions, training sessions or other related forms of verbal communication in a dynamic team setting.

  • Consistently demonstrate the ability work with and develop relationships within the physician office

  • Consistently demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal savvy to work all levels in the organization, to include but is not limited to, internal resources / teams

  • Demonstrated successful capital management and B2B knowledge and experience; includes demonstrated ability to develop and implement customer sales strategies

  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in the Point of Care market as well as working within Distribution models

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively within team settings

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively within team settings

  • Demonstrated Leadership abilities

  • Computer proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, iPad

For more information, please visit Reporting to the Field Applications Sr. Manager, the Field Applications Specialist provides high-level technical and application training to BD Customers within clinical, public health, and industrial laboratory settings. This position has a primary focus on training in diverse settings; promoting sales of BD instrumented platforms and total system solutions, and assisting with on-site customer installation and troubleshooting. Responsibilities: Implementation and Technical / Application Training * Conducts comprehensive user training on BD instrumented platforms and achieves customer competency, optimal utilization, and self-sufficiency * Collaborates with Technical Service and Support and Field Service to enhance customer experience * Provides expertise in all stages of the sales cycle by assisting sales associates in enlightening technical features and functions of BD Instrumented platforms * Ensures the fulfillment of and adherence to internal policies and procedures * Project coordinator of all installations to which he/she is assigned * Drives implementation process and full utilization of BD instrumented platforms Sales and Marketing Support * Conducts product demonstrations while promoting product value to support the sales of BD instrumented platforms at trade shows, BD sponsored workshops, and customer sites * Assists local, regional, and national sales associates and management during the sales of BD instrumented platforms * Supports or participates in BD sponsored Webinars and Teleconferences Technical Input to New Product Development: * Participates on project teams as appropriate, complying with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), ISO 9000, Quality Procedures and PACE (Product and Cycle-time Excellence) Development protocols for new product development * Contributes to laboratory workflow productivity and other customer needs to maximize efficiency and efficacy of platform training General * Ensures population and understanding of electronic Project databases and Service Intranet with content relative to Application business * Conducts training for BD associates in BD instrumented platforms as necessary * Responsible for managing assigned customer account base * May travel outside their region to assist in supporting other territories, regions and areas Qualifications: * B.S.
