Compensation: $55,000 - $65,000 / year

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

The Field Representative is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with growers and customers while also negotiating contracts within the market and providing feedback to growers on conditions and markets trends.

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with customers and actively develops new prospects.

  • Provides insight and communication to the grower regarding crop production decisions, crop quality, market pricing and demand.

  • Identifies producers to cooperate with and oversee variety trials and research plots conducted by Trinidad or in conjunction with UNL Research specialists, chemical suppliers, etc.

  • Assists with management of regional seed inventory and forecasting for future years' seed needs.

  • Negotiates contracts with the grower market.

  • Identifies and provides feedback and information to the grower regarding: crop quality, soil condition, market pricing and demand.

  • Oversees test plots (new varieties) and work with such farmers to plant and monitor progress/success.

  • Organizes and sponsors grower appreciation functions.

  • Coordinates and assists with loading and unloading trucks at receiving stations and plants when needed.

Provides assistance at the plant with day-to-day operations when not in peak season.

Participates in bean associations and grower related events.

Seeks training and continuing education opportunities to maintain and develop expertise in the dry bean industry.

Travels within established area by company car.

Complies with company safety policies and maintains clean and orderly work area and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) procedures, including timely and accurate documentation of required SQF forms.

WHAT WE NEED

REQUIRED EDUCTATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Background in crop consulting (recommending herbicides, insecticides) or agriculture.

  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.

  • Knowledge of bean varieties and production, market classes, soil types, plant structure, market pricing and demand.

  • Must be able to self-motivate and work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Requires strong communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain logbook indicating route traveled and deals or promises made to customers.

  • Good contract negotiation skills including communication of market pricing and market demand while remaining within the company's structure and guidelines.

  • Possesses a personable and outgoing personality, and a positive attitude.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and willingness to learn and use company software.

  • Available to work overtime during peak seasons such as planting and harvest.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's or associate degree in Agronomy or related field.
  • CDL preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Frequently (more than 75% of time) required to: stand and/or walk, use ladders and climb stairs, bend and stoop, reach, push/pull, kneel and crouch. Lift, carry and/or move items up to 50 pounds, without assistance; use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls, to verbally communicate; and to hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Frequently exposed to a non-climate-controlled environment.

  • Frequently (more than 75% of time) exposed to dust and loud noise.

  • Frequently (more than 75% of time) exposed to machinery and mechanical, moving parts.

  • Personal protective equipment, such as hearing protection, safety glasses, hair net, and food safety-related items, is required.

  • Up to 80% travel within established areas by company car.
