Position Purpose:

The purpose of the Field Technician position is to complete the necessary field operations tasks, such as installing and removing interstate logo signs and/or TODS (Tourist-oriented directional signing), and taking measurements and drawing site plans for interstate sign placement related to the Interstate Logo signing and TODS (Tourist-Oriented directional signing) programs.


Essential Functions and

Responsibilities:
  • Installation and removal of interstate logo signs via bucket truck.

  • Drawing as built plans (plans to ensure correct location and specifications of logo sign structures).

  • Update and complete all sign inspections annually.

  • Development of new site plans and drawing of site plans.

  • Minor sign repair and sign maintenance.

  • Occasional installation and removal of signs.

  • Vegetation control (site clearing) related to the ground mounted signs including removal of trees, brush, weeds, etc.

  • Attend safety meetings monthly.

  • Organization and cleaning of warehouse space and supply yard area.

  • Travel 90% by vehicle. Overnight travel required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS Ability to work independently along side of highway.

  • Must be detailed oriented and flexible.

  • Good verbal and written skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Familiar with the use and maintenance of power/manual tools, basic construction equipment and machinery.

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 100 lbs.

  • Drafting skills.

  • Knowledge of vehicle distance measuring instruments.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or Equivalent.

  • Must possess current and valid driver's license.

  • Drafting experience and knowledge of Distance Measuring Instrument is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT The primary work environment is outdoors.

  • The specific physical demands/requirements of the job include: lifting greater than 50% of the time, pushing, reaching, seeing (reading, color distinction, acuity, depth perception, peripheral vision), sitting less than 50% of the time, standing, stooping, talking, turning, walking, and climbing up to 30 feet high.

  • The typical percentage of time spent traveling and spending nights away from home is greater than 50% including multiple overnights per week.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The starting rate for this position is $18.27 / hour.

In addition, along with management, the Safety Professional at H&M is expected to be a "hands on" partner in delivering various safety initiatives and programs specifically to develop a safety culture supporting the goal and daily mission that "Nobody Gets Hurt" in the course of any work performed by H&M. Primary Outcomes: * To provide operations management with effective safety coaching, counseling and advice, ensuring H&M operations management delivers a safe and efficient work environment for all employees, customers and the public (COACHING and CONSULTING). * Provide specific safety training, education and related programs for operations management to use and implement in the course of completing work (EDUCATION, TRAINING and PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT). * Acts as a "safety" motivator for management and employees alike, ensuring safety remains an active part of the work and the culture at H&M (MOTIVATION). * Provides "safety" subject matter expertise, ensuring the most relevant and effective safety practices are used and implemented in the course of delivering work at H&M (SAFETY SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT). * Provide support to the projectby maintaining a visible presenceto the field performing site visits to all jobs and/or the entire project. * Regularly review and be familiarwith all applicable legislation and applicable standards,to ensure compliance. * Inform the projectmanagement team and supervision of any new or conflictive legislative matters that could impact the project. * Develop and periodically review Site Specific Safety Plan's (SSSPs) for the project/program to ensure a safe work environment for all company employees, contractors, visitors and community. * Provide direction, supportand resource to all site managers, supervisors, foremen and safety advisors. * Ensure that all incidents are reported immediately. * Participateand assist the supervisors, foremanand safety advisorsin the investigation of incidents to determine root cause, and corrective actionswhere necessary. * Ensure incident corrective actions are followedup on and completed. * Ensure injured workersare offered modifiedduties and documentation has been completed. Monitor and follow up on modifiedworkers in the field. * Verifying field staff training and competencies; consult the project management team, Safety Manager and Regional SafetyManager for compliance and action plan. * Review safety obligations of the clientsand ensure they are carriedout as per the terms of the agreement, and communicated to the ProjectManager, Supervisors, Foremanand Safety Advisors. * Ensure new hires are orientated, and all required documentation is completed accurately and forwarded to the head office. * Ensure safety boardswith postings including but not limitedto: Health and safety policy, inspection and audit results, projecthazard assessment, locationof first aid, etc. are maintained and current. * Ensure that the following materialis available and on site,H&M HS&E Manual, the applicable provincial legislation and regulations, site safety inspection forms, observation forms, tailboards and log books,fall protection plans etc. Education and General Experience Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in an Occupational Safety and Health discipline (e.g. OS&H Management, Construction, Human Factors or another applicable technical field or equivalent and relevant professional safety experience. * Professional Certifications (CHST, CUSP) preferred. * Experience using Word, Excel, Power Point required. Share Point preferred. * A minimum of 3-5 years experience in Safety and Occupational Health disciplines. Professional certifications will be considered for purposes of substituting for experience requirements. * Experience in the construction industry. Utility industry – Power Distribution, Transmission and Sub-station preferred. * Knowledge in applicable ANSI, EPA, DOT and OSHA Standards (29 CFR 1910, 29 CFR 1926), and other applicable standards. * Certified Instructor in (i.e., CPR, First Aid, OSHA outreach programs, etc.). * Trainer in OSHA ET&D 10-Hour and 20 Hour Leadership courses preferred. * The abilityto demonstrate the application of risk assessment to company operations and activities. * Ability to travel 40% of the time and work some weekends * Current valid driver's license with a good record over the past 3 years required.
