JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for a wide-range of public works maintenance initiatives related to street maintenance and repairs, traffic operations activities, and stormwater maintenance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1.Ability to operate and maintain a variety of vehicles and equipment for maintenance and repair of city assets related to streets, traffic, and stormwater infrastructure. This includes all related equipment used for emergency operations response for the city. The equipment is listed in the following categories:
a) Vehicles
b) Street Maintenance equipment and tools
c) Traffic Maintenance equipment and tools
d) Stormwater Maintenance equipment and tools
e) Emergency Operations Equipment and Tools
2.Ability to understand and interpret Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TxMUTCD), and Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX)rules, regulations, plans, and guidelines; and to place and utilize all related safety devices per code and/or design. Ability to serve as flag-person to divert traffic safely around construction sites.
3.Ability to service, clean, and maintain equipment, perform walk-around inspections, make minor repairs and service fluids, fill out equipment logbook, and maintain tools and equipment per manufacturers specifications and guidelines.
4.Ability to input daily work activities, utilize and maintain integrity of information in CarteGraph OMS work order management system.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
5.Ability to perform tasks in all three divisions of Field Operations and other duties as needed or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:
Knowledge of operations and maintenance of dump trucks, rollers, skid steer, loader, emulsion distributors, grinders, post-hole diggers, trenchers, or thermoplastic applicators, and related hand tools and additional small equipment.
Knowledge of industry related hazards.
Knowledge of TxDOT safety rules and guidelines.
Skill in performing physical activities relating to standard methods of: construction, maintenance, repairs, fabrication and installation of streets and drainage including concrete and asphalt placement and finishing or maintenance and repair of traffic related infrastructure
Ability to learn standard safety practices including division SOPs, JSAs, and MSDs and emergency response procedures.
Ability to learn and understand the Texas Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TxMUTCD) and TEEX guidelines.
Ability to maintain Confined Space Certification Training - portray role of Competent Person for assessment of potential hazards and monitoring of air quality during confined space entry.
Ability to operate a commercial motorized vehicle and light equipment.
Ability to learn specialized work management systems including CarteGraph software products.
Ability to tolerate noise, rough movement and other discomforts created by equipment.
Ability to operate a communications radio, and calculator.
Ability to kneel, stoop, crawl, climb, etc.
Ability to work in an outdoor environment subject to adverse weather conditions, dust and dirt.
Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to, driving, seeing, sitting, and writing.
Ability to carry out operations according to set procedures or sequences.
Ability to lift 75 lbs on repetitive basis.
Qualifying Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED and six (6) months experience in a similar environment. Valid Texas Operator's License, Class C. *Must obtain class "A" commercial driver's license within 6 months of employment and obtain Work Zone Certification within 1 year of employment. Confined Space Certification.
