Responsibilities

This position is located within a Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management. The Field Manager is responsible for overall leadership, program direction, implementation and review of all activities within the Field Office. This includes interpreting Department and Bureau policy and directives and making final Field Office planning and program decisions, including resolution of both long range and day-to-day planning and program issues. The Field Manager develops, implements, and manages a wide variety of natural resource programs including forestry, fisheries, water quality, wildlife and recreation. This requires conducting a vibrant, proactive and open public relations program to improve public awareness and support of BLM programs and to fully understand community interests and customer service needs. The Field Manager has overall supervisory/managerial responsibility for a large natural resources staff composed of multiple disciplines. The incumbent is responsible for all aspects of human resource management including: hiring, training, career development, performance management, team effectiveness and the full administration of EEO concepts, principles, and procedures. The incumbent works for the District Manager and his/her Associate, and is a member of the District Leadership Team.

Physical Demands: Normally works in an office setting with occasional trips to the field. Occasionally required to walk moderately long distances over rough terrain during normal fieldwork.

Work Environment: When in the field, subject to injuries when walking in rough terrain and exposure to uncomfortable hot and cold temperatures.

Occasional travel - Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-12) of the position to be filled. Examples: Experience utilizing knowledge of management principles involved in administering resources, including watershed, realty functions, minerals, recreation, wildlife habitat, cultural resources, protection (including fire control), livestock forage, and automation;

You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
