Division Information:

The Anatomical Pathology Division (APD) provides laboratories with the broadest portfolio of instrument and consumable solutions, from specimen collection and grossing to advanced staining and coverslipping. The Division generates $400MM in annual revenue and has 1,500 employees in 13 countries. The anatomical pathology product line includes Richard Allan Scientific, Erie Scientific, Microm, Shandon, and Lab Vision.

Position Summary:

Field-based position responsible for performing instrument installations, demos, customer training, and technical product support for Anatomical Pathology instrumentation and consumables. The successful candidate must have the ability to utilize effectively communicate and perform histology lab procedures and best practices. The ability to manage installation scheduling, training coordination, and administrative responsibilities with minimal supervision is required. Additional responsibilities include; customer relationship management, written documentation of installation and training activities, and effective interaction and communication with Technical Support, Sales, and Marketing teams. The Field Laboratory Applications Specialist will also represent the company in a positive, professional manner in all dealings with Thermo Fisher Scientific customers, both external and internal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and understand customer user requirements, and how they relate to product functionality

  • Provides troubleshooting and resolution of customers' technical issues, and provides help in the understanding of the appropriate use of Anatomical Pathology products

  • Handles requests for the replacement of the apparently defective product. Completes, maintains, and processes relevant paperwork and documentation, including records of customer complaints.

  • Provides periodic reports to management including compilations of customer complaints, trend analyses, and suggestions for improvement.

  • Reviews available technical literature to maintain an awareness of current laboratory practices and procedures.

  • Provides on-site product installation and customer training, on an as-needed

  • Act as a Technical Specialist between Customers, Sales and Product Management

  • Participates in validating new products, customer evaluations of existing products and application support.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • HT/HTL certification and 3-5 years of laboratory experience is required

  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, Microsoft Office Suite proficient to include Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Technical writing skills, ability to work with minimal supervision in a laboratory environment and in the field.

  • Ability to work in a field team environment, and must be customer focused with appropriate sensitivity and sense of urgency for customer issues. Customer facing skills are necessary. Excellent oral and written communication skills, problem-solving, listening, and organizational skills are strongly desired.

  • Position requires maintaining on-going professional certifications, technical acumen, and overall development of product knowledge as applicable. Position may include periodic involvement in product development projects or pre-market testing of new products.

  • The position requires an excellent communicator with above average demonstrated troubleshooting skills and diplomacy.

  • Up to 75% Travel is required and may be asked to travel within hours for urgent customer needs

Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:

  • Associate's degree required in a life science discipline, Bachelor's preferred.

  • HT/HTL (ASCP) Certification

  • 3-5 Years experience in Anatomic Pathology-Clinical or Research

  • Advanced Computer Skills

Description POSITION SUMMARY Under general direction, the primary role of this position is to perform advanced customer support activities for process and laboratory instrumentation. Additionally, this position actively promotes the growth of the territory through contract sales and the provision of sales leads. Finally, this position provides critical support for resolving issues on more complex, lower volume instruments and/or more challenging customer applications. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Utilize established company guidelines and standard work to perform onsite start-up, preventive maintenance, advanced repair, and calibration/verification of instrumentation. * Serve as the designated Field Service technical expert in assigned instrumentation and application, including consultation and onsite repair. * Utilize problem solving to diagnose and complete non-routine instrument repairs. * Instruct customer in proper preventive maintenance and operation of instrumentation. * Submit prompt, accurate service reports utilized as proof of service for regulatory agencies, and which affect billing and parts inventory. * Follow environmental, health, and safe-work policies of both Hach and the customer. * When possible, utilize the Knowledge Base and other technical resources to answer technical and procedural concerns. * Accurately complete expense reports in a timely manner. * Involve the supervisor or product engineer when encountering new and challenging or complex problems. * Accurately track and categorize time on a daily basis utilizing established tools. * Identify new service contract and instrumentation sales opportunities and transfer related information to the sales channel. * Maintain accurate parts inventory utilizing reports, and participate in both formal annual counts and informal mid-year counts. * Ensure lean parts inventory levels while maintaining on-time service delivery standards. * Collaborate with the dispatch team for efficient and effective job routing. * Travel as necessary for completion of job duties utilizing company vehicles and air transportation, including frequent overnight stays with minimal advance notice. * Support customer and Field Service Technicians with technical and procedural guidance, training, and expert knowledge. * Create, maintain, and distribute accurate and complete troubleshooting guides and standard work documents for assigned instruments. * Coordinate and supervise escalated customer issues to resolution, including contacting appropriate business unit product managers or engineers for technical questions and to provide product feedback. * Partner with the Business Unit for advanced instrument and application training development and implementation. * Provide the Business Unit and Hach Engineering with product feedback to enhance quality and applicability within the customer environment. * Partner with the Business Unit for design criteria of future product development. * Collaborate with other division staff to meet personal, regional, and national objectives. * Mandatory overtime may be required as business needs dictate, and as such flexible scheduling is required of associates in this position.
