The University of Texas Permian Basin's Department of Social Work welcomes applications for the position of Field Education Director with our Bachelor of Social Work program

Essential Functions

The Department of Social Work seeks a social worker to serve as the Field Education Director for the

Bachelor of Social Work (BSW). The ideal candidate for this position will have professional practice in

generalist social work. Field education is the signature pedagogy for social work. The field setting is

where students apply human rights principles from global and national social work ethical codes to

advance social, racial, economic, and environmental justice. Field education is designed to integrate the

theoretical and conceptual contributions of the explicit curriculum in the field setting. It is a basic

precept of social work education that the two interrelated components of curriculum- classroom and

field-are of equal importance, and each contributes to the development of the requisite competencies

of professional practice.

  • Experience teaching across the curriculum;

  • Experience teaching in either a BSW or MSW program

  • Establish and maintain all requirements for accreditation established by CSWE in collaboration with other social work faculty.

  • Contribute to curriculum development.

  • Maintaining an active scholarship agenda, including pursuit of external funding and collaborative research that includes student participation.

  • Facilitate course development and scheduling.

  • Academic and professional advising.

  • Performing additional assigned tasks to enhance the quality of the program.

Required Qualifications

1.A Master's degree in Social Work from a Council on Social Work Education accredited institution

2.A minimum of two years of post-master's practice experience in social work

3.A demonstrated record of scholarly production, including practice related research

4.Demonstrated experience with the social work accreditation or reaffirmation process.

5.Experience in curriculum design and development, including utilization of experiential teaching methods

Preferred Qualifications

1.Bilingual/Bicultural

2.Ability to provide mentorship through teaching, scholarship, curriculum development, administrative experience, and/or other academic and professional activities in social work

3.Undergraduate social work teaching experience

4.Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

5.Outstanding communication skills.

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.

Standard Working Conditions

1.Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.

2.Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.

3.Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.

4.Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.

5.Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.

6.Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation
