The successful candidate will work as part of two-to-four-person field crews conducting a variety of field surveys, including rare plants, noxious weeds, wildlife, wetlands, and associated habitats. Opportunities to assist Tetra Tech staff on other projects throughout the western United States may occur. This position requires extensive travel in remote areas, often without cellular service, during the full field season.

Your Role:

  • Conduct rare plant and noxious weed surveys in the Pacific Northwest, Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska.

  • Monitor field conditions following established protocols (training provided).

  • Perform a combination of day trips from Boise and extended field hitch deployments, typically six-to-ten 10-hour days in length.

  • Relocation expenses to Boise are not provided; however, travel from Boise to the job site is included in your work and hourly duties.

  • Reimburse travel expenses (airfare, hotels, per diem) to and from project sites.

  • Provide personal field equipment (i.e., field pack, water bottles, sturdy hiking boots, and appropriate clothing).

  • Use provided electronic field data collection tablets, laptops, GPS check-in devices, and charging stations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, environmental studies, rangeland sciences, or a related field, or currently working toward this type of degree.

  • Background or coursework and/or experience in rangeland sciences, biology, ecology, soils, botany, or a related field with an emphasis on field work or studies.

  • Attention to detail, ability to work independently, willingness to work as part of a team, and the ability to stay positive and effective during long days in the field.

  • Willingness to work in sometimes difficult conditions, often miles from the vehicle.

  • Safety-conscious mindset with the ability to continually assess and mitigate hazards.

  • Physical challenges typically encountered may include long off-trail hikes, steep slopes, uneven terrain, extreme hot and cold conditions, and biological hazards (animals and plants).

  • Valid driver's license and a safe driving record.

  • Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and enjoyment of working outdoors.

  • Experience driving a four-wheel drive pickup truck on rough terrain.

  • Up-to-date CPR/First Aid training.

  • A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Additional Information:

This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience and work with a variety of Tetra Tech natural resource employees. Travel from Boise to project sites will be covered by the company. The hitch schedule may be modified around Tetra Tech observed federal holidays and project needs.
