Field Automation Technician

Seeking a Field Automation Technician with skills in PLC troubleshooting, mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills. Long term salaried position.

Description:

This person will be traveling 50-70% of the time doing customer installs, repairs and commissioning. The equipment is typically fluid processing equipment for the food and beverage industry but could be something as simple as conveyer / basic automation equipment as well. This person will be responsible for repairing, maintaining and starting up equipment. This person will provide communication between the customer and engineers and will be responsible for doing the documentation associated with the visit (IE what is going wrong, why, what did you troubleshoot).

This work is sometimes done over the phone (if possible) and is being created to free up more of the engineers time.

First Day Must Have's:

• Install & commission/ connect all components to create one system

• Installation of wiring, mechanical modifications (helping start from ground up) & troubleshoot problems once it is set up (is it doing what it is supposed to do)

• Documentation experience

• Updating and modifying PLC controls

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience using basic hand tools (a bolt or wire might be loose and it might be as simple and tightening or unplug and plug wire back in)

• Determine machine / equipment problems (what is faulting / going wrong) - they will perform basic troubleshooting on machine functioning (verify where problem is located)

• Will do assembly and installation of various machine components in the field ( might just be a problem where a part needs to be swapped)

• Perform hands-on electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repairs (ensure machine is functioning correctly according to specifications & documentation the customer has. does it match?)

• Modify & edit PLC programming in the machine - engineers will verify anything that is rewritten but will edit the code if there is a small error that is causing the machine not to run.

• Will support onsite customers and engineers with inspections, assembly, installations and commissioning or new and existing equipment (helping to make sure equipment is running once it is set up).

• Support equipment, service documentation and suggests improvements based on what other customers are doing.

• Start-up new machines, check power system and wiring; observe lockout tag out process to check machine component functionality (is the machine doing what it is supposed to be doing and doing it safely).
