Application Engineer

NI's Transportation Business Unit focused on power test solutions is looking for an Applications Engineer who can deliver value to battery and automotive manufacturers. You will be responsible for working closely with customers, sales and internal teams to execute pilot and applications projects that demonstrate the capabilities of the different hardware/software platforms and solutions offered by NI.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with power test equipment (power supplies, AC/DC sources and loads), testing and test methodologies of batteries and high-power electronics, and manufacturing processes.

As an Application Engineer, you will be the one bringing your customers to the next breakthrough in operational efficiency and product quality using your gifts of talent, intellect, experience and enthusiasm, as well as having fun!

Job Responsibilities

  • You will become an expert user of NI's portfolio of power test equipment (battery cyclers, AC/DC sources and loads) as well as software/applications used to control them.

  • Perform commissioning/start-up and training when the solution is delivered to the customer and provide post-sale support.

  • You will partner with NI's sales channel and act as a primary technical interface to understand customer issues and assist the sales team on the technical aspects of the sales engagement process including qualification, discovery, demonstrations, and Proof-of-concepts.

  • You will leverage your expertise in electronics operations, test, manufacturing, yield, quality and statistical analysis to:

  • Assess the customer's met and unmet needs

  • Scope a technical solution that will help customers realize significant business value using NI solutions.

  • Work with supporting organizations to implement the solution and ensure it meets the customer's needs.

  • You will clearly document troubleshooting processes, technical findings, and customized solutions to capture and re-use knowledge.

  • You enjoy high-complexity tasks which require knowledge of technical and business trade-offs, mastering new skills and prioritizing multiple competing projects.

  • You will work with business development managers, offering managers and product managers to define requirements for value-add solutions that can be implemented with our different software platforms and provide feedback on existing offerings that can make them more effective.

  • You will work to develop use cases that can help other customers with similar problems.

  • Travel is required (30%)

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related field.

  • 5+ technical experience in power electronics, electronics testing, manufacturing or test related areas.

  • Willingness and hands-on knowledge working in high voltage environments.

  • Experience in a customer facing role in either applications or customer technical support.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop or define hardware/software solutions to solve complex problems. Some experience in software programming/scripts is desirable.

  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting of software and hardware interoperability problems.

  • Excellent communication skills in English
