Position Summary:

The Field Applications Engineer is responsible for technical support to customer's PCB design and manufacturing groups. This position will support design activities of, primarily, SLP (Substrate-Like PCB) and HDI designs with Aerospace and defense OEMs, provide feedback on routing and pad lay out techniques, offer trade-off analysis of SLP/HDI stack-ups, material selection, reliability, signal integrity and other electrical and mechanical requirements based on the customers end use application.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFV (Design for Value) support to customer engineering and design teams for new designs and existing design improvement

  • Support drawing reviews prior to design release and help architect drawing notes to support the specific design and manufacturing needs

  • Understand and work with customers to implement SLP/HDI product specification requirements

  • Facilitate disposition of technical queries between TTM's pre-production engineering groups and the customer

  • Update customer design and manufacturing groups on TTM capabilities and technology road map through formal presentations

  • Provide the manufacturing facilities insight into future customer needs, technology requirements and identify gaps in TTMs ability to support those future needs

  • Assist and coordinate with TTM pre-production to create controlled impedance stack-ups

  • Assist the Sales Account Managers in increasing customer revenue by providing technical support and service

  • Travel to and visit customer sites to support technical discussions, issues, and key programs as required.

  • Create and conduct technical capability presentations in conjunction with the sales team

  • This position will interface regularly with TTM's Sales, Development, Pre-Production Engineering departments, and Operations, and it is essential that the employee be able to effectively balance the communication channels between these departments

Job Knowledge and skills:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of TTM manufacturing and design capabilities and value add offerings to support QTA/NPI/Production Manufacturing

  • Ability to establish contacts and build relationships with customers to drive improved communication and partnership

  • Ability to make routine decisions with general direction provided by department manager

  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well with customers design groups

  • Strong engineering background and knowledge of entire PCB/SLP manufacturing process including; process flows, individual processing steps, and pre-production tooling

  • Understanding of fine line (<25 um) circuitization technologies, along with small micro-via stacking

  • Understanding of organic chip carrier module assembly, both flip chip and wirebond attach

  • Self-motivated and willing to work with minimum supervision

  • Effective public speaking and presentation skills

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or related discipline preferred

  • 5+ years of experience in engineering activities related to PCB industry

  • Intermediate level skills using Genesis STAR software, drawing / blueprint interpretation skills, and use of PCB stack-up tools

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project

  • Travel for customer visits and TTM North American sites required up to 40% of the time

Compensation and Benefits:

TTM offers a variety of health and well-being benefit programs. Benefits are available on the 1st of the month following date of hire. For some positions, only PTO and holiday benefits are offered.

Compensation ranges for roles at TTM Technologies varies depending on a wide array of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At TTM Technologies, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on each individual set of circumstances. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:

$64,952 - $108,254

Additional compensation: An annual or quarterly company bonus may apply based on position assignment. Positions hired for alternative shift may be eligible for a shift premium based on the assigned shift and location.

Must comply with TTM Export Control Policies and Procedures and all applicable laws including ITAR, EAR and OFAC including but not limited to: a) being able to identify ITAR product on the manufacturing floor and understand that access to these products and related technical data is restricted to only US Citizens and US Permanent Residents; b) recognition of Foreign Person visitors by badge differentiation; c) understand and follow authorization procedures for bringing foreign visitors into facilities (VAL); d) understand the Export and ITAR requirements for shipments leaving the US; e) manage vendor approvals for ITAR manufacturing and services.
