MasTec is currently seeking a Fiber Optic Cable Splicer to join our dynamic Team.This position includes cutting and splicing fiber optic cables, locating problem areas and performing other repairs as needed.
(include but are not limited to)
Install, repair and test fiber in a variety of environments (underground and aerial).
Splice fiber optic cables, both loose tube and ribbon. Assemble splice case, including grounding, bonding, isolation, storage, and sealing.
Connects and rearranges cable facilities utilizes special test equipment to test for and locate trouble and perform cable completion tests.
Reads and interprets work prints and diagrams and remains familiar with current practices.
Test fibers as required by contract and work order.
Reviews and interprets underground and aerial cable records in existing records, on maps or in
Makes precise recommendations for changes in running fiber optic cables, or provides input
into construction methodologies.
Utilize the correct tools and test equipment for proper and safe performance of services.
Read and interprets blueprints and splice diagrams.
Perform routine maintenance and emergency repair as called upon. Recognize and repair fiber damage participate in fiber relocations.
Must always comply with proper safety standards/procedures and work practices according to MasTec or the customer, whichever standard is higher.
High School Diploma or GED;
Experience performing fiber optic cable splicing in a construction, installation, and/or maintenance environment;
Valid driver's license.
Knowledge of common telecommunications outside and inside plant engineering, construction, installation, and operation;
Knowledge of fiber optic testing and troubleshooting using common industry test gear and tools;
Ability to read prints and other types of engineering documents;
Skilled in fiber optic splicing;
Proficient with fusion splice machine;
Proficient with fiber test equipment;
Ability to read and comprehend schematics, preparation of all job related work reports (i.e.: red-lined cable plans. schematics, throw sheets and test results);
Knowledge of cable size, gauge, count, and colors of direction;
Able to work outdoors in all types of weather;
Valid CDL (A) license or be able to attain one.
