Position Summary
The School of Dentistry Faculty Group Dental Practice (FGDP) is a dental practice with more than 25 general dentists and specialists. The Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) will perform chairside assistant in various areas such as but not limited to General Dentistry, Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics The incumbent will assist in patient care chairside; Perform complex and technical procedures such as mount-mirror inspections of the oral cavity and charting obvious lesions, existing restorations, periodontal pocket measurements, and missing teeth; Perform other clinical support activities; Maintain and stock, sterilize instruments and prepare / tear down chairs, Perform specific administrative functions; help develop, implement, follow standard operating procedures to ensure excellent patient experiences and clinic efficiencies; proactively plan for the needs of and set up for clinical procedures; and other duties as assigned.
Incumbent is expected to perform responsibilities independently and to prioritize and organize work to ensure that all assigned duties are completed in a timely manner. The RDA is expected to assist other staff members, covering when colleagues are absent, learning and expanding their industry knowledge and generally willing to expand duties and assist with other projects as the need may arise. The RDA may also be accountable to peers placed in leadership positions within their divisional focus and responsibilities.
Delegated projects and performance reviews management with input from various stakeholders will be undertaken and reviewed by practice manager periodically and at the minimum once per year. Performance evaluation will be undertaken on an annual basis with input regarding clinical techniques and work performance solicited from faculty and contract dental practitioners.

Qualifications
Working knowledge and practice of patient rights and laws relative to those rights, such as HIPAA (Required) Working knowledge of principles of 4-handed dentistry, dental terminology, materials, equipment and procedures related to dentistry. (Required) Working knowledge of principles of infection control, and sterilization procedures. (Required) Ability to work with infectious diseased patients. (Required) Ability to recognize an emergency situation and respond appropriately. (Required) Demonstrate English writing skills to write accurate and legible entries in patient dental records. (Required) Excellent written, verbal communication and customer service skills to collect and relate information to diverse patients, staff and faculty of all levels. (Required) Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone and in writing. (Required) Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy to maintain an inventory of dental instruments, equipment, and supplies in the working operatories. (Required) Ability to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload, frequent interruptions and ability to set priorities to reflect relative importance of job responsibility. (Required) Demonstrated skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty members, co-workers, patients and the public. (Required) Skills to effectively utilize Dentrix computerized scheduling and billing system. (Preferred)
