As a Ferry Shift Coordinator, your responsibilities will include: Job Safety ? Wear required personal protection equipment.

Maintain current knowledge of safety rules, regulations, and procedures. Ensure equipment is used properly. Maintain a clean, orderly and safe work environment.

Follow VDOT safety regulations and practices. Supervises Facilities ? Coordinate slip assignments for fueling, maintenance and lay-vessels. Conduct daily air monitoring aboard all vessels.

Assist vessels with traffic control when required. Assist with emergency situation on the docks and ferries. Perform other duties as assigned to maintain the safety, cleanliness and overall operation of the ferry and facility. Staffing of Ferry Crews and Public Relations

  • Prepare and maintain duty schedules for all staff. Ensure appropriate changes and updates are made to crew assignments as necessary ensuring no missed trips.

    Serve as operator for all incoming telephone calls. Serve as Ferry Crew Member when required. Passenger Assistance and Vessel Security

  • Provide information and assistance to public in a professional manor as needed. Provide clear directions to vehicle operators as they board or depart ferry.

    Make frequent and thorough safety and security inspections on the ferry.

    Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. VDOT is an emergency response agency and this position is the core of this requirement, therefore you will work outside of normal work hours during emergency operations.

Minimum Qualifications

You are minimally qualified if you have:

  • Basic computer operations and have the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Experience coordinating specific job duties with crew members.

  • Experience creating and updating reports, performing heavy manual labor, and responding to emergency operations as necessary.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience as a VDOT Watercraft Operator. High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience or training may substitute for education.

Marine Radio Operators Permit. Experience as a sailor or marine.

Our strong culture focuses on: ?teamwork ?transparency ?creativity and collaboration that values differences, ?nimble learning VDOT is seeking a *Ferry Repair Technician Senior* that is able to perform maintenance and repair tasks on all mechanical equipment onboard the ferries and docking facilities and prepare ferries for semi-annual and annual US Coast Guard safety inspections. As Ferry Shift Coordinator, you will: Maintain and repair marine equipment - Diagnose and repair marine engines including fuel pumps and injectors, governors, jacket water pumps, cylinder heads, power assemblies and other components. Perform tune ups and preventive maintenance. Maintain Vessel Auxilliary Systems - Perform maintenance and repairs on auxiliary systems like Air condition units, sanitary system, steering, fuel, electrical equipment and other auxiliary equipment on board the ferries. Maintain and repair Dock Equipment - Maintain and repair loading ramps including repair or replacement of sheaves, cables, hydraulic components, and other associated equipment. Perform preventive maintenance on dock equipment. Prepare ferries for U.S. Coast Guard Inspections - Inspect and test safety devices, relief valves, shut down devices, firefighting equipment, and other safety-related equipment to verify proper system operation. Accompany U.S. Coast Guard inspectors during inspection to verify system operability. Information Processing and Paperwork - Prepare, process, and maintain required maintenance and repair documentation. Generate, complete, and close-out work orders in computer system. Perform time and leave entry. Prepare parts requests. Complete paperwork for warranty inspections and repairs.
