The Biologicals Discovery and Development (BDD) group is seeking a Fermentation Technician for the Fermentation Research Group (FRG). Under the general direction of the lab leader, the candidate supports the daily operation of bioreactors used to improve fermentation outcomes. This role provides opportunities to improve processes, use new technologies and focus on safe operation of the lab. We are looking for candidates who can work as part of a multidisciplinary team to discover, develop and launch biologicals pipeline.
What You'll Do:
Operate bioreactors to support the study and improvement of fermentation processes. This will include addition of medium components, sterilization, daily sampling, reactor cleaning and routine maintenance
Perform sample analysis that involves the use of viscometer, centrifuge, spectrophotometer, laboratory analyzer and pH meter
Be available for occasional weekend and off-hour fermentation monitoring and sampling sessions, and participate in troubleshooting calls
Work on multiple projects in a highly collaborative environment
Develop an understanding of fermentation process control requirements and perform preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment to ensure accurate operation
Order laboratory consumables, handle receipt and stocking of materials and supplies
Schedule and manage own work tasks in alignment with the overall team plan of work
Recognize when results deviate from expectations
Adhere to documentation standards and contributes to writing technology reports
Develop a thorough understanding of equipment operation while consistently adhering to the highest level of safe operating discipline
Work in cross-functional teams with pipeline projects at various stages of development from early discovery to manufacturing and launch
Generate, document and communicate research in the form of internal scientific reports and external publications
Network and learn from experienced and new-hire colleagues on technical or interpersonal skills required for growth of individuals and teams

Flexibility to perform work after hours or on weekends
Ability to work in a process environment that involves standing, bending, reaching, and occasionally lifting moderate weights (up to 25 lbs) for
50% of the workday
A high level of independence and initiative
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
What Makes You Stand Out:
One year or more experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment
Basic knowledge of microbiological & biochemical laboratory principles
Experience with aseptic technique
